NIEWINSKI, Nancy "Nadzeja"
April 15, 1928 - March 24, 2013
It is with saddened hearts we announce the passing of our mom, Nancy Niewinski (nee Stankiewicz) on Sunday, March 24, 2013. Nancy was born on April 15, 1928 in the village of Slonim, Poland. Nancy immigrated to Canada in 1946 and worked on Alberta farms near Cremona and Mossleigh where she met the love of her life, Walter of 60 blessed years. This enduring couple settled down and established their roots in Calgary, raising three fine children, Edward (Laraine), Richard and Michelle (Dale) and enjoying their two wonderful grandchildren, Nicole and Nathan. Nancy was a dedicated wife and mom, committed to her role as homemaker and her love for immediate and extended family and life-long friends living in Calgary, Lethbridge, Medicine Hat and Edmonton. She considered her children and grandchildren her greatest achievement. Nancy remained loyal to her Polish heritage and spiritual faith, deeply involved in the Polish community and church through her tireless volunteerism. She was an exceptional cook and baker, applying her refined talents at many Polish gatherings, activities and church bazaars or events. Nancy loved her flowers and garden. She was a natural "green thumb" that many envied, a gift that seemed so effortless for her. Although she lost the love of her life last July when Walter passed away at 94 years, she was graciously and valiantly making efforts to continue her life. She was looking forward to spending her summer in B.C., but the Lord called for her before she could experience this with her family and friends. Relatives and friends are invited to Polish Rosary with Prayers at McINNIS & HOLLOWAY'S Park Memorial Chapel (5008 Elbow Drive S.W., Calgary, AB) on Thursday, April 4, 2013 at 6:30 p.m. with Tributes to follow at 7:30 p.m. Funeral Mass will be celebrated at St. Cecilia's Catholic Church (321 - 90 Avenue S.E.) on Friday, April 5, 2013 at 10:30 a.m. Graveside Services to follow at Queen's Park Cemetery. Condolences may be forwarded through www.mcinnisandholloway.com. In living memory of Nancy Niewinski, a tree will be planted at Fish Creek Provincial Park.
