Nancy Orr

Nancy "Jane" Orr died peacefully at home February 9, 2023. Jane was born in 1930 in Sidney, OH, to Jerome and Mary Ellen Raterman. The second daughter, Jane had three loving siblings: Ann, Mary Ellen, and Jerry. The Ratermans were a close-knit clan guided by Mary Ellen's Irish kindness, Jerome's German can-do attitude, and their family's devout faith.

In 1948, Jane left Sydney to study at Barat College in Lake Forest, IL where she met many lifelong friends. In 1951, some of the Barat girls took the train to attend a Notre Dame University football game. It was there that Jane met the love of her life, Edmund "Bud" Orr. It was a blind date and Bud only agreed to do it, only if he could take "that one."

In 1954, Bud and Jane were married. Shortly thereafter, Mark was born, and four more children followed. Bud and Jane had a bond that could not be broken. Over the past 54 years, they demonstrated their devotion to one another, setting an example of everlasting love to their children, their friends, and their communities. Now, once again they are reunited forever and ever.

Loving mother of Mark (Judith), Jerry (Laurie), Mary Ellen Hilliard (Robert), Marcy Maggio (Anthony), and E.J. (Susan).

Cherished grandmother of Allison Orr (Krystian Ciolek), Colin Orr, Jennifer Eapen (Paily), Ryan Orr (Melissa), Patrick Orr (Kathryn), Janie Kerr (Michael), Caroline Hilliard, Joseph Maggio, Nicole Stone (Corey), Anthony Maggio, Nina Maggio, E.J. Orr III, Emma Orr, and John Patrick Orr. Fond great grandmother of Annika, Elinor, Madeline, Parker, Violet, Emmeline, Indigo, Paige, Dylan, and Caden.

The visitation will take place on Thursday, February 16 at 10 a.m. followed by funeral Mass at 11 a.m. at SS Faith, Hope & Charity, 191 Linden, Winnetka.
