Nancy Dunn Priester, 79, of Davenport, died peacefully Saturday, September 8, 2007, at Genesis Medical Center, East Campus, Davenport. Visitation will be held 4 to 7 p.m. today at Weerts Funeral Home, Kimberly at Jersey Ridge, Davenport. Celebration of Life services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at First Congregational Church, 2201 7th Avenue, Moline. Private burial will be at Oakdale Memorial Cemetery, Davenport. Memorials may be made to the Genesis Health Services Foundation, Dialysis Unit.
Mrs. Priester was born in Moline on July 20, 1928, daughter of Charles and Lora (Barber) Dunn. She married Walter K. Priester April 21, 1951, at the First Congregational Church. She attended Moline High School and later graduated from the University of Illinois, where she was a member and president of the Delta Gamma Sorority. Upon graduation, she was hired as the director of programming at the YWCA in Moline. She then became a full-time homemaker and served as member and president of the Visiting Nurses Association. Nancy was also a long term member of the Outing Club, Davenport. She was extremely active in all types of athletics throughout her life and was a past member and Women's Golf Club Champion at the Davenport Country Club and current member and past Women's Club Champion of Crow Valley Golf Club. She was also an active member of the Waterman Cup Golf Team for both clubs, of which she gathered many long-lasting relationships. Nancy's passionate love for her family was the driving force in her life, with her values having a long-lasting effect on all that were touched by her. Her love for her friends and travel filled her later years with much happiness and many fond memories. She will be missed dearly.
Survivors include her husband, Walter; daughters, Susan (Randall) Rathje, Davenport, and Ann (Mark) Collison, Marshalltown, Iowa; son, David (Julia) Priester, Charlotte, N.C.; grandchildren, Charles and Katherine Rathje, Benjamin, Peter and Lora Collison and David, Zachary and Jacob Priester. She was preceded in death by her parents, Lora and Charles Dunn II, stepfather, Oscar Priester, and brother, Charles Dunn III.
