Nancy "Nan" Woodruff Woods

January 23, 1925 - December 13, 2024

Nancy "Nan" Woodruff Woods passed away peacefully on December 13, 2024, at Mill Vista Lodge at Wind Crest in Highlands Ranch, Colorado. She spent her final days surrounded by the love and care of her family, friends, and caretakers.

Born on January 23, 1925, in Newark, New Jersey, Nan was the second daughter of Ralph DeWitt Woodruff and Blanche Marie Lux. Her early years were spent in Nutley, New Jersey, before the family relocated to Syracuse, New York. Nan graduated from Syracuse University with a degree in Physical Education, reflecting her lifelong passion for fitness and exercise.

Nan's vibrant energy shone through her many endeavors. She founded the Wyckoff Ski Club in New Jersey during the early 1960s and organized tennis lessons for children in Southampton Shores, Long Island. She also taught swimming lessons in her backyard pool in Monroe, Louisiana. An avid golfer, Nan achieved three holes-in-one-a feat that delighted her but playfully irked her late husband and golfing partner, Arthur "Art" Woods.

Nan and Art met in Syracuse and married on August 25, 1945. Their life together took them to Birmingham, Michigan; Wyckoff, New Jersey; Palatine, Illinois; and Monroe, Louisiana as Art advanced his career with ITT. Along the way, they raised three children: Craig, Bruce, and Wendy.

Nan was involved in so many organizations throughout her life that her family referred to her as "a professional volunteer".

After Art's passing in February 2004 and 36 years in Monroe, Nan moved to Wind Crest in Highlands Ranch in 2008 to be near three generations of her family. True to form, she immersed herself in community activities, became an ambassador for Wind Crest, and remained active in St. Luke's United Methodist Church.

Nan is survived by her children: Craig (Barbara) Woods, Bruce (Virginia) Woods, and Wendy (Sean) Hanley; her grandchildren: Amanda Macias, Lydia (Keith) Boone, Daniel (Julie) Hanley, and Timothy Hanley; and five great-grandchildren: Mason Macias, Kaylee Macias, Owen Hanley, Cameron Boone, and Ella Hanley. She was predeceased by her beloved husband of nearly 59 years, Art Woods.

A memorial service will be held at St. Luke's United Methodist Church in Highlands Ranch, Colorado, on Saturday, January 18, 2025, at 10 a.m., followed by a reception and a celebration of what would have been Nan's 100th birthday.

In honor of Nan's memory, the family encourages donations of time or support to a local nonprofit of your choice or contributions to Bristol Hospice at 5950 S. Willow Dr., Greenwood Village, CO 80111.

Nan's legacy of love, energy, and service will live on in all who knew her.

I visited Nan and Art when Wendy and I drove to Monroe, LA the summer of 1977 after college. We had a wonderful time there with swimming, golf and cooking. Nan was a wonderful cook and I still have some of her recipes. She gave me the cookbook "The cotton country collection" by the Junior League of Monroe. I still use it today! She was such a nice, and welcoming person and I will always cherish those memories of her. I hope all of your memories of your mother and grandmother ease your pain of losing her.
