Naomi Jean 'Nan' Seabrooke Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Jan. 26, 2015.
SEABROOKE, Naomi Jean 'Nan' (nee Manbeck) Nan died peacefully at Peterborough Regional Health Centre on January 24, 2015 in her 95th year. Beloved wife of the late Harvey N. Seabrooke and loving mother of Paul and his partner Pamela Hooke, and Peter and his partner Julie Cullen. Nan was a proud grandmother of Kailey, Paige and Spencer Seabrooke, all of B.C. She is predeceased by her parents Ella Jean and William M. Manbeck, her step-father Michael Coughlin and her siblings, Billy, Thelma, Alice, June and Jackie Manbeck. She is survived by her brother Wallace (Bus) Manbeck and many nieces and nephews including Judy Stephens, Janet Caravaggio, Reg and Cheryl Brown, Joel Manbeck, Elizabeth Windsor, Lynne Boyce, Christopher, Greg and Kimberly Manbeck, and Danny Seabrooke. Nan is also survived by her brother-in-law, Grant Seabrooke. Nan will be fondly remembered by the Baschuk family, the Hogan family and her friend, Mark (Stewy) Stewart of North Vancouver. She was born in Reading, Pennsylvania and moved to Peterborough, Ontario when she was about 7. During the Second World War, Nan moved to Halifax to be closer to her brother Bill who was stationed there. After the war she returned to Peterborough where she married Harvey and raised their family. Nan enjoyed walking and volunteering - for years she gave her time and knitting to the Peterborough Civic Hospital Auxiliary and was known for the baby clothes that she knit for Peterborough newborns. She also devoted time to the Knox United Church Cub Scout troop on their overnight camping trips. Nan spent summers at her beloved cottage on Buckhorn Lake where she loved gardening and swimming (preferably in cold water). She and Harvey wintered in Florida in their retirement years and after Harvey died, Nan happily made a permanent move to Buckhorn Lake for the last 10 years of her life.

The family gratefully thanks Dr. Ragaz and the professional and caring team at the Palliative Unit of PRHC and those that helped care for Nan in her home at the lake over the last couple of months.

A private family funeral will take place with burial at Rosemount Memorial Gardens. Friends and family are invited to a public reception to celebrate Nan's life on Tuesday, February 3, 2015 from 6:30 – 9:30 p.m. at COMSTOCK FUNERAL HOME & CREMATION CENTRE, 356 Rubidge Street. In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Nan may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society or the Peterborough Humane Society. Online condolences may be made at www.comstockfuneralhome.com

Pete and Paul, so very sorry to hear that your mom has passed away. I know that your heart must be full of sorrow at this time but you have received such a great gift having your mom with you for so many years. Cherish the good memories, I know I will. Here's to her and Harv!
