Narayanan Subramanian Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Sep. 18, 2025.
Dr. Narayanan "Mani" Subramanian passed away peacefully on September 16, 2025, in Wellesley, Massachusetts at the age of 79.

Mani was born on June 22, 1946, in Thiruvananthapuram, India. He earned degrees from the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) in New Delhi, India; the Birla Institute of Technology & Science in Pilani; and the University of New Hampshire in Durham, New Hampshire. He then embarked on a 40+ year career at DuPont, primarily at its headquarters in Wilmington, Delaware. He specialized in researching new methods of producing titanium dioxide, and held several patents for his process innovations.

Despite these professional accomplishments, Mani's priority was always his family. He is lovingly remembered by his wife, Padma Subramanian; his son, Guhan Subramanian and his wife Helen Clement; and his daughter, Dr. Yamini Levitzky and her husband Dr. Benjamin Levitzky. He also leaves behind five cherished grandchildren: Sam, Lily, Mina, Nate, and Rachel.

A service will be held on 43 Fairmont Avenue in Newton, Massachusetts on Sunday, September 28th at 10:30 am with luncheon to follow at 1 pm. A second religious service will be held at the Hindu temple at 760 Yorklyn Rd, Hockessin, Delaware on Friday, October 3rd at noon, with lunch following at 2 pm. Friends and family are welcome at both remembrances of his life.

We are heartbroken to hear about Mani. We still remember when Mani and Padma moved to Wellesley 14 years ago. From that moment, it was clear that Mani was an extraordinary man. His positive energy was contagious; every interaction with him left us feeling uplifted and inspired.

His professional accomplishments were impressive, but what really stood out was his integrity and genuine care for others. He was such a loving husband, father, and grandfather, always cherishing his family. The warmth and kindness he shared with everyone will stay with us forever. We will miss him dearly.

Mani was a strong supporter of the Mahalakshmi Temple here in Delaware. He will be dearly missed by all of us. He was a dear friend of us( Chitra and Krishnan). His quiet demeanor was his characteristic. We will keep his family in our prayers. May Sree Mahalakshmi give strength to Padma and family to go through these tough times.

Mani and Padma were a pillar for the Hindu community in Delaware. Since their move to Boston, we have continued to be friends. Ram and I admire Mani´s diplomacy, kindness and spiritual outlook in all his activities. His quiet behind-the-scene support and generosity have contributed to the the HTA´s success enormously. Mani will be in our hearts for ever. Our deepest condolences to Padma, Guhan and Yamini.

We've only known Mani for a short few years with our first introduction happening on the Wellesley walkway.

He was a very smart, loving and witty person. Demanded the least from others but cared the most for them.

Padma has been a shining example of how a loving spouse can care for her husband, being at Mani's side every minute and caring and feeding him with utmost love.

We will miss Mani dearly and are here for any help we can offer to Padma in her life journey. Our deepest sympathies for her children, Guhan and Yamini and their children.
