Natalie Latimer Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Jan. 15, 2015.
Natalie Ann Mercer (Kelly) Latimer

Born October 12, 1922, died unexpectedly yet peacefully the evening of January 13, 2014 surrounded by all her children. Natalie was the daughter of the late H. Fred (Estelle) Mercer, a prominent Pittsburgh lawyer. Survived by her brother Richard D. Mercer (Jupiter, FL) and her children; Cynthia (Bill) Kerschbaumer, Diane (Gene) Natali, and Robert (Sharon) Kelly in addition to her 8 grandchildren, 8 (soon to be 9) great-grandchildren, 2 step-children (William III and Michael Latimer) and a step-granddaughter.

Preceded in death by William H Latimer Jr. and Woodruff S Kelly and son Woodruff S Kelly Jr. as well as her other 12 brothers and sisters. Natalie was an Alumnae of The Ellis School (Pittsburgh) and a long time member of Shadyside Presbyterian Church (Pittsburgh) and First Presbyterian Church (Delray Beach). She was the 1st Grade teacher at the Fox Chapel Country Day School in Pittsburgh from 1968 until 1980.

Natalie married Bill Latimer June 9, 1973. They were long-time members of Oakmont Country Club and Fox Chapel Golf Club before moving to Delray Beach, Florida in 1981, where they belonged The Little Club of Gulfstream, The Country Club of Florida and the Seagate Beach Club.

Natalie was an accomplished artist, exhibiting her paintings throughout Delray Beach. She was an avid, club-championship golfer, and loved everything about Bridge, playing (and doubling) every week until her passing at the age of 92.

A resident of the Abbey Delray South, Natalie will be remembered for her trademark white glasses, sartorial style, a 5:30 glass of Jack Daniels and quick, dry wit. Her family would like to thank the Abbey staff and residents for making the last 10 years of Natalie's life as enjoyable and pleasant as her first 82. We invite all to raise their glass and toast to a Grand Lady's long life well lived.

The family will observe a private service. In lieu of flowers, they encourage donations in her memory to the Employee Appreciation Fund at the Abbey Delray South, 1717 Homewood Blvd, Delray Beach, FL 33445.

Natalie, Knowing you enriched my life so much. You were always full of such energy with an array of social events and personal hobbies filling your plate. I again thank you for raising the best man there is on the face of the earth, your own Dear Sweet Robert. Your kindness to me was neverending and I truly loved your sense of humor. You continue to inspire us all. You are missed more than you will know!

Such warm and wonderful memories of Natalie as a lifelong friend to my parents, Emmy and Paul Sieber. She was a fun loving lady! There is quite a party going on now in Heaven- I can hear the glasses clinking and all the laughter!!!

Condolences from the Hutchinson family. Whether in the Sunday mixed golf group at OCC or monthly duplicate bridge group, Natalie and Bill were both good friends as well as fierce competitors of my parents Fran and Alex Hutchinson. Most of those groups are now reunited in heaven. God bless.
