Unfortunately, it is a rare thing in this world to find people that care as much about others as Dr. Camp did. For one man to put himself out there, helping people overcome their addictions, it should inspire others to do the same. He wasn't just someone that claimed to be able to hand out a cure all, but someone that inspired you to have faith in yourself. And, if you were lucky enough to overcome, he wouldn't let you just stop there; he wanted the successes to be heard, to have those that it worked for be an example for those that are still hurting. It takes people like Dr. Tom Camp to really change things that are wrong in the world. To say that he was a lifesaver is an understatement. I shutter to think of where I would be today if it weren't for this man's ability to care for complete strangers . . . just because he could.

Judy, to you and the family, i send my deepest sympathy in the passing of Tom. He, indeed, seemed to be a friend to all and cared deeply for all, I regret that I was unable to attend the memorial services due to some health issues and tests surrounding this. By the way, the grandkids still, as do I, remember getting to visit the llamas. I am still appreciative to Tom for the kindness in his coming to my retirement reception

Tom,
He was a wonderful man. I first met him in 1969 in Charleston, he was a senior & I was a freshman. Little did I know but our paths would cross again in 1977 when I started my fellowship at UAB. He was a fabulous man.

Father God,
Draw near to Dr. Camp's family in their sorrow. What they have lost can never be regained, and a part of them will never be the same. Enter their darkness, Lord, and fill them with Your holy presence. Please be patient with them, Lord. Sit with them now in their time of grief, and comfort them while they shed tears. They need You near them. Amen.

The first time I saw Tom Camp I was driving an ambulance and brought a severe trauma patient to Peoples Hospital ER. In those days there was no ER doctor, and trauma patients either had to wait for thier family doctor, or were transferred to Birmingham. Dr. Camp and Dr. Hudson had recently set up a private practice across the street from the Emergency Room entrance (now After Hours Clinic). As we unloaded our patient, Dr. Camp came running across the road and took over treatment of our patient. After things settled down a bit I ask the Charge Nurse when the hospital had hired him. Her reply was, "They didn't. Dr Camp is doing that out of the goodness of his heart". That day Tom Camp earned my respect, and took over a part of MY heart, that has grown every day that I have known him. Today that part of my heart cries, because we have lost a good doctor... a compassionate man... and a practicing Christian, who has left this world a much better place.
