What a wonder friend

I loved my Uncle Nate and (Mary)Aunt E so very much and I miss them tremendously. I looked up to them since I was a little kid. After growing up and knowing more about their kind hearts and helping others especially military personnel. I am so proud to call them family! Love Matthew Harrell

I served under LtCol Vail in Vietnam during the Cambodian Incursion in May-June 1970 when he was Battalion CO of Triple Duece (2-22 Inf). I met him gain in 1996 at our first regimental reunion near Orlando since he was a friend of the host, Awb Norris.

I have known Gen Vail for many years through the MOWW and was on the stage with him for the Massing of the colors.

I would like to express my sincerest sympathy for the entire Vail family. I worked with Nan, Nathan's daughter and she displayed such a strong work ethic so now I know where she got that from! What an amazing man and the whole family should be so proud of all his contributions to our society. God Bless you all and we will keep you in our prayers.

I am the son of Hugh McKay. Dad worked with Gen. Vail to organize the annual Massing of the Colors ceremony for several years. I posted a photo of Gen. Vail leading the ceremony in the gallery. Dad is sitting on Gen. Vail's left. Dad also enjoyed working with Gen. Vail on other activities associated with the MOWW. Dad asked me to pass on his condolences.

To Nate and Mary's children, I came to know your parents just a few short years before my own mom's death (Barbara Cornette Taylor from Hopkinsville, Ky., where your mom grew up). My husband, Larry, and I visited Mary and Nate many times and we loved every minute of our time with them. A year or so before your mom passed away, she gave me a collection of her recipes and I absolutely treasure them! My husband just happened to see your dad's obituary on Monday. Today was the one and only day a month when I work two jobs, so I was so sorry not to be able to get away from work to join you today. I don't have any of your contact information, so (Susan) please send me an email at [email protected] so that I can send something to you. We send our hugs, love and prayers to you all.

Nat and Mary were our neighbors on Inca. Mary shared so many recipes with me (all good). After 911, Gen Nat appeared at my door with a vase filled with roses. It was his way to ease the suffering we all felt. I miss them both.

We called him N.C. and he was a fabulous brother as well as a wonderful man. We are blessed with so many wonderful memories.

I am the daughter of Elaine, his cousin, my name is Troy and I just remember how he was very good to my mother throughout the years.

I worked at Franklin Park when the General and Mary first moved in. They were both amazing, loving, and sweet people with a gift of compassion. I will never forget the one and only time I addressed him as Mr. Vail, he quickly corrected me with a stearn look and said "It's General Vail," and then I said General Vail and smiled, he gave me a pat and went on his way. I truly respected him and I know his family will miss him dearly. He is happy back with his love, Mary and I can see them smiiling down on us as we go on. In my prayers, Cholly Gordon

Nate (forever our "General") was a good friend, true to his love of country and a role model for all of us. We know he and Mary are happily re-united and surely there is a golf course to be found in Heaven..and Nate's feet are new again....Blessings to his family and numerous friends... I work at the place that General Vail and his wife Mary lived for several years. I grew to love them both so much and the news of his passing breaks my heart but I know in my heart that he is now in a better place, and reunited with the love of his life. General Vail - I love you, and will miss you always.

General Vail became an instant friend when he joined our golf group at Ridglea Country Club. He will be missed by all of us.

I met and served with Gen. Vail in 1966 in Vietnam (of all places) We served together in the Sinai for 3 years, but more importantly Nate and Mary Vail became and remained good friends all thru the years. Both families watched our children grow into fine citizens
Both, Mary and Nate will and are sorely missed.
