Published by Legacy Remembers from Sep. 9 to Sep. 10, 2011.
GISCARD D'ESTAING PARIS, FRANCE - Nawal Alexandra Ebeid Giscard d'Estaing March 1, 1959 - Sept. 6, 2011 Nawal Alexandra Ebeid Giscard d'Estaing, beloved wife, mother, daughter, and sister passed away on September 6, 2011 in Paris, France. She is survived by her husband, Louis Giscard d'Estaing, and son, Pierre Louis, of Paris; her mother Caroline Ebeid of Winston-Salem, NC; her father Alexander Ebeid and wife Jacqueline of Cheltenham, England; her father-in-law and mother-in-law President and Mme. Valeri Giscard d'Estaing of Paris; along with her brother Alexander Tremaine Ebeid of Durango, CO; her sister Christine S. Heimann and husband Ronald of the Bahamas; sister Catherine M. Seibert of Durango, CO; and brother Gregory L. Seibert and wife Robin of Raleigh, NC. Nawal was born March 1, 1959 in Pasadena, CA and attended elementary school in Beirut, Lebanon prior to her family's move to Winston-Salem. She attended Summit School, Salem Academy, and the North Carolina School of the Arts; and continued her higher education at the University of Florida in Tallahassee, and Catholic University in Washington, DC, where she graduated magna cum laude with a degree in music. During her years in Winston-Salem, she was a member of Saint Paul's Episcopal Church, where she enjoyed singing in the choir and was often a soloist. A gifted singer, Nawal delighted both professional and personal audiences in many countries with her beautiful voice. Her own greatest delight, however, were times spent with her beloved family, especially her husband Louis and their son Pierre Louis, whom she adored beyond measure. Funeral services will be held at The American Cathedral in Paris, France on Saturday, September 10, 2011 at 11:00 a.m. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Cancer Services, Inc., 3175 Maplewood Avenue, Winston-Salem, NC 27103.

I worked for Nawal's father at his estate near Cirencester. What a lovely family. We all remember Nawal very fondly. I have only just learnt of her passing. Very sad.

On behalf of all the grooms. RIP Nawal.

Just learned of Nawal's passing through the Summit Echoes. It was sad to learn of the loss of a classmate at Summit and Salem Academy whom I remember fondly and wish we'd been able to continue our friendship as we grew older and moved away from our hometown. She was one of the most naturally graceful and gracious people I know, and I wish the best for her husband and her son as they cope with their loss.

To the Ebeids and Seiberts, I have just learned of this and want you to know how saddened I am. I rememebr Nawwal as a lovely child and sweet neighbor in Beirut, a beautiful woman and an accomplished artist. May her memoery live forever through her son. With love from Albert Gabriel Nahas.

Caroline, I am deeply saddened to learn of Nawal's death. I had hoped that we would see each other again. I remember the happy times at NCSA and at your home, the parties and special times with her and with the family. My heart and thoughts are with all of you at this time. Martha Vance Low

Dear family -- although I never met Nawal, Caroline spoke with such love for all her children that many of her friends felt we knew about them. There are no words to fill the gap this young woman leaves, but know that so many of us who love and admire your family are thinking of you and sending you much love and spiritual support.
