Ned will truly be missed, he was not only a mentor to my success as a business owner but a great friend whom has always been there for myself as well as my business. I would not be in the position I am in business or life if it wasn't for him. I am deeply saddened to hear of his passing but I know he is in a better place and even though he is not a phone call away I believe he will continue to watch over all of us and make sure we are doing our best.

As a retired employee of Payne & Dolan, Inc., I remember Ned as always treating every employee with a smile and a hand shake. It didn't matter if they were the highest or the lowest on the totem pole. My condolences and prays to the Bechthold family.

As a happily retired employee of Payne & Dolan, Inc. for 29 years, I'd like to thank Ned for being instrumental in paving the way for hiring minorities. I learned so much in all the various jobs and training schools and met so many great people. He was truly ahead of his time. My sympathies to the family.

Mr. Bechthold, as I referred to him growing up, will forever be an inspiration to me. As my Indian Scouts leader, he always provided thoughtful and enduring guidance. In my teenage years, I will never forget the time we were snowmobiling in the Uuupper, when he told to me to pull over as he wanted to get a picture of me next to a sign. The sign had one word, PARADISE. After taking the picture he said, “Schiedey, this is true paradise up here, of which many will never experience. Take it in and never forget about the true beauty that nature has to offer.” Mr. Bechthold also provided me summer jobs working for Zenith Tech, of which I learned a great deal…to appreciate hard work. That job financed my college degree. Thank you Ned!

My fondest memory of Ned is seeing him on my way to work at 6am (or earlier) riding his bicycle on Gebhardt Rd in Brookfield - Inspiration! He, and the company he worked so hard for, have made a huge difference in my life and that of my family. He will be remembered.

I am so blessed to have known Ned. He was such a genuine, caring person and made a positive impact in the lives of so many people. He had a special way of remembering what was going on in the lives of the people he worked with and making a point to ask about it. I will always be grateful for his support, advice, encouragement, and the constant reminder to take one day at a time and keep my faith.

My sincere condolences to the Bechthold family. I worked for Payne & Dolan for 40 years. I had great respect for Ned. Although I didn't see him often, I was always aware of him being there. So glad to have had the chance to talk with Ned at the Lannon Shop Christmas lunch this past year.

So sad to hear of the passing of Ned Bechthold. He and my father were in the DU fraternity together, UW Madison. Many winters were spent with the Bechtold family at cottage on Keyes Lake, WI in my youth. Ned Bechtold was one of the finest men I every met in my life. He always had a kind word for me and ALWAYS asked about my family. Condolences sent to Helen, Lynn, Kurt, David and Chuck. God looks on favor of you my friend Ned. So sorry to hear that my Keyes Lake buddy, Ned, has passed away. I will miss our times together talking about the good old days at the lake, fishing, hunting, the Trading Post and the stories of our past generations. In the Forties Ned, Charles Chapman and Wicky Frisch spend many a morning shooting hoops and watching Hopalong. He appears as the boy on the top of the Schoomaker Reef in my Tales. We lived apart but similar. God Bless.

Ned was truly a down to Earth person who told me "there is nothing wrong with wanting to better yourself" after I gave my notice that I would be leaving the company. He always asked how things were going and is truly a person who cared about others. My prayers are with the Bechthold family at the loss of their father, husband, grandfather and friend. He isn't gone, he will always be in our hearts.

Since I was a little girl riding from quarry to pit and project with my grandfather or father, the Bechthold name was never far from mention. It was always raised with kindness, respect, and reverence. It was mingled with words like honesty, hard work, integrity, and family. Ned followed Walter in personifying the Bechthold family and all it stands for. May God bless you all at this very difficult time and help you find peace as you carry on.

I will miss our fearless leader. No matter how busy he was, when he saw me at the office he would stop, say hi, ask how our family was, talk about his beloved grandkids, his bike rides through our neighborhood. Men like Ned are the exception not the norm. The moment I met Ned as his nieces date to his son Kurt's wedding he made me feel like I was part of the family (as did the rest of the Black sisters and their families). Ned was one of the rare people that contributed so much, and took so little. His humility, intelligence, sense of humor, and honest caring for his fellow man was his trademark. I will miss him very much.
Our prayers go out to the immediate family that will miss his daily presence, and to the rest of us, who didn't see Ned that often, but were comforted knowing that he was with us.
Ned was one in a million and I'm lucky to have known him.
