We were shocked to hear that Nelda had passed away! She was such an ally of the Quadra Village Community Centre and its programs. She was always looking for ways to help.... especially programs that supported school aged children. Nelda made a point of asking what would be the most helpful and kept track of our various programs. Many economically disadvantaged children and youth benefited from the programs she supported and her enthusiasm for helping in the ways she could was obvious.
Nelda was such a great ally and will be missed.
With sincere appreciation.

Calla and Peter. I am sorry to hear of Nelda's passing. I was in her nursing class at WCH. She was a strong, fun and inquiring person enjoyed by all her classmates.

Peter and Calla and families
Thinking of you in this very sad time. Aunt Nelda is a very special person. She loved family and extended family and was always interested in bringing extended family together. Aunt Nelda shared her wisdom and love of all that was important to her. The times shared with her children Peter and Calla and their families were her most treasured and proud moments. Aunt Nelda gave us all the gift of connecting with each other.
We will miss you forever!

So sorry for your loss. We had a couple of phone chats this month which I will treasure. We grew up as children in Parkhill On . Her sisters were our baby sitters. Fond memories of many years ago!!

The passing of our Aunt Nelda cuts deep. She will always remain in our hearts, for her quick sense of humour, her caring nature, and her views on all things. She stood with me many times when I needed a loved one and and shoulder. Our heartfelt condolences to all the family. Love Gail and Eric Grehan Winnipeg, MB

I'm so sorry to learn of your mom's death - but thrilled that she did not have to move to that nursing home! Nelda lived across the hall from me in Burton Hall (nurses residence) & was always great fun. She provided many fond memories - I'm so glad she was able to make the trip to Toronto for our 50th reunion her sense of humour and her laugh were welcome additions - I'll miss her

By Me Standing
When little,
They looked down upon and spoke down upon,
My Soul.
Until She,
Kneeling lifted high to speak as if I were tall,
Smiling into me.
When little,
They listened not and heard not my wonders found,
My voice Lost.
Until She,
Kneeling laughed along to my wonders new found,
Laughter falling into me.
Growing some,
They scolded more and held the rules stricter more,
Wonder caged.
Until She,
With arms embraced lifted high to speak,
Uncaging wonder.
Growing some,
They held rules up high and dreams to be lies,
Wonder almost dies.
Until She,
Embraced with joy and told the wonders are the reason why,
Held firm now in my Soul.
Almost tall,
Support had fled and unsure cut free to live against the odds,
Worry driven deep inside.
Until She,
With cards unmissed, and letters that uplift,
My heart held strengthened.
Almost tall,
My choice of heart raised discord and angers alarm,
Undeserved burden's pain.
Until She,
Marching with placards strong, upheld the reason joys rights are not wrong,
Embraced love so strong.
Tall standing,
Advice not fitting filled the air, understand not despairs pressures here,
Isolated.
Until She,
With calls of hope their place to find and dreams firmly put back in mind,
Strength held on.
Tall standing,
Chaos rules life's uncertainty, isolated distance time has made,
Lost together now.
Until She,
With embraces strong, journeys to tell the joy of victory small, yet won.
Scolding smiling holds high.
Tall standing,
Repeated falling, repeated pushing against walls rising, walls rising higher,
Injustice unanswered.
Until She,
With calls and cards reminding, a picture held timeless against the storm,
Unbounded Love.
Loss,
Wonders shelved and lost hopes shattered,
Dreams gale torn.
Until She,
To show surrender has no meaning for a cause, pushing on is reasons strength,
Kneeling lifts high.
Loss,
Dreams dragged out and pushed ahead with stumbling hope,
Begin again.
Until She,
Her last call, a worried hope unanswered, a worried hope for good,
By Me standing,
Till the End.

So sorry for your lose. My parents and Nelda lived next door to each other. Nelda was also a client of my hairdressing shop.
She will be remembered fondly by many in the old neighbourhood.
