Nelisha Eugena Freckleton

Freckleton, Nelisha Eugena, affectionately known as "Mama Nellie and "Ms. Nellie" passed away peacefully at Holy Cross Hospital in Fort Lauderdale, FL on June 23, 2009 following a brief illness. Mama Nellie was born in Chantilly, Manchester, Jamaica on December 2, 1927 to the late Estella Lewin and Lewis Henry, the first of five siblings. Nelisha was predeceased by her spouse, Wilfred "Indy" Freckleton, affectionately known as "Daddy Indy" and Mass Indy". Nelisha and her family were ardent members of the Chantilly Anglican Church in Kingston, Jamaica and on migrating to the United States became a faithful member of Ascension Peace Presbyterian Church in Lauderdale Lakes, Florida. After her husband's death in 1981, she migrated to the United States where she joined her two eldest daughters. Upon her arrival in the United States she quickly seized the opportunity and chose to focus on her educational development, obtaining her certification as a Nursing Assistant, a field she was gainfully employed in until her retirement. Nelisha was a naturally happy, kind and peace-loving woman who showed love and caring not only to her immediate family, but to everyone whom she came in contact with. She was an ardent reader, enjoyed cooking, sewing, walking, crocheting, cross word puzzles and counseling her family. Nelisha Eugena Freckleton is survived by her children: Monica Freckleton-Brown, Ivan A. Freckleton, Rose M. (Denzel) Peak, Everard G. (Sonia) Freckleton, Glendon R. (Margaret) Freckleton, Rev. Dr. L. Winston Freckleton, Leonard L. Freckleton, Errol Anthony Freckleton, and Shirley (Elroy) Freckleton-Williams and adopted son, Desmond (Gee) McKnight; grand-children: Nadine A Brown-Bolden Esq, Stephanie Peak, Tameka Freckleton, Romaine Brown, Esq, Mitzy Freckleton, Omar Freckleton, Lamar J. Freckleton, Carian Freckleton, Jason Peak, Brittney Peak, Dave Freckleton, Oral Freckleton, Camille Freckleton-Fong, Akeem Freckleton, Destinee Freckleton, Brandon Freckleton, Tonylee Freckleton, Tyre Freckleton, Ashley Williams, Maya Williams. Edmond Freckleton, Fabian Freckleton, Bibby McKnight, Dukey McKnight, Tasha McKnight and Paul McKnight; great-grandchildren: Alicia, Dwight, Jamal, Devhon, Bianca Nalleah, and Sharon. Nelisha is also survived by a host of family and friends too numerous to mention. "Mama Nellie", you have fought a good fight, you have finished your race, you have kept the faith. Hence forth there is laid up for you a crown of righteousness. For a life well lived, a legacy replete with love and service to family and friends, Mama Nellie to her family, Miss Nellie to her friends, will be greatly missed. The family will receive friends, Friday, July 10, 2009 from 5:00 PM until 7:00 PM at Baird-Case Funeral & Cremation Service, 4701 N. State Road 7, Tamarac, FL 33319. A Funeral Service will be held at 11:00 AM, July 11, 2009 at Ascension Peace Presbyterian Church, 2701 N. State Road 7, Lauderdale Lakes, FL 33313. Interment will follow at Forest Lawn Memorial Gardens in Davie, FL.
