Nell Thompson Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Feb. 7, 2025.
Topeka - Nell Dee Ann Thompson, of Topeka, Kansas, went home to be with her Lord and Savior on January 6, 2025. She was born January 10, 1946, to Richard and Hazel Thompson. Nell graduated from Sabetha High School in 1964. Following her high school graduation, she joined the army and served in the Judge Advocate General Corps, retiring in 1986 after 21 years with the rank of Sergeant First Class. After leaving the military, she was employed at the Menninger Foundation. She was employed at Kansas Division of Emergency Management in the Training Section from 1999 until 2008. Her co-workers remember her as a very kind, quiet woman with a sweet smile who was always willing to help.

Nell was a wonderful friend, and social times with friends often resulted in much laughter as Nell always had funny stories from her time in the military and after. She also testified of God's goodness and His protection over her life. She loved her church family and was a powerful woman of prayer. If she said she was going to pray for you-- she did. She was profoundly generous, and many ministries and charities around the world have benefited from her gifts. Sometimes it was helping dig wells in an underdeveloped country, taking care of orphans, helping disaster victims, or sharing the love of Jesus with others. Her love extended to anyone needing a helping hand, including animals. Many dogs and cats shared her home over the years.

In her high school yearbook, Nell shared the following quote under her picture: "It matters not how long you live, but how well." And that is what she did, she lived life well.

A memorial service celebrating Nell's life will be held at Destiny Revival Ministries at 1208 N. Kansas Ave., Topeka, Kansas, on Saturday, March 15, at 1:30 p.m. Memorial contributions may be made to Destiny Revival Ministries, P.O. Box 67423, Topeka, KS 66667 or to Helping Hands Humane Society, Topeka, KS.
