Nellie Molleken

MOLLEKEN, NELLIE (GATES)- Born August 2, 1911 and passed away November 18, 2008 at the Richmond B.C. Hospital. On November 4th, Nellie and Judy went on a trip to see her newest great grandchild Lucy. Sunday, November 9th, she slipped, fell and broke her left hip in three places. She had surgery on the 10th, the trauma of it all took a great toll on her whole body. Thanks to Jack's cell phone, Mom was able to speak to Dean and Eleanor almost daily, Harold, Leanne and Bruce called as well. We called her sister Evie at 2 p.m. on Tuesday the 18th, as they talked to each other every night at 9:30 p.m. for at least the last 30 years. All the calls helped her get through the long day. Dennis, Vicki and the family cheered her up with every visit. I was the lucky one to be with her every day and always hoping we could go home soon. She took a turn for the worse at 6:30 p.m. and passed away at 8:30 p.m. B.C. time. Dennis, Vicki, Lisa, Dion, Lori, Jodi, Baby Lucy and Judy were all at her side when she left us. We kissed her goodbye for all the family at home. Everyday Mom would say to me Lets get out of here and go home, I prayed everyday we could. Today Dennis and his family will bring her home for good. She will be missed everyday, by all of us who loved and cherished her. She was predeceased by son Ken, daughter Hazel Chamberlin, granddaughters Lorie Lynn and Wanda, her parents , 2 sisters and 6 brothers. Nellie is survived by her children Harold (Rita), Valerie (Burt) Johnston, Bruce (Noni), Judy Davis (Jack), Darlene Cuthbert (Julian), Dennis (Vicki), daughter in law Eleanor Molleken, sisters Evie McClelland and Nora Vansdal, brother Jack (Almeda) Gates, 25 grandchildren, 29 great grandchildren and 7 great great grandchildren. Cremation took place in Vancouver B.C., and she will be placed to rest with her Dad (Grampa Louis Gates) at a later date. Thanks to Dr. Richard Kendall and staff at the Richmond Hospital. Also family and friends for all the support at this sad time. Please join the family at The Royal Regina Golf Club, Friday November 28 from 2 to 5 p.m. to celebrate Granny's long and loving life.
