Nelson Roberts Obituary
Nelson "Sparky" Roberts, 79, a lifelong resident of Southwick, MA passed away on Sunday, October 22, 2023, in his home surrounded by family. He was the beloved husband of Elizabeth (Pelton) Roberts.
He was born on September 28, 1944, in Springfield, MA and was the only son of the late Arthur and Doris (Nelson) Roberts, also of Southwick.
He graduated from Westfield High in 1961 and went on to attend Devry Technical School for Broadcasting and Audio Electronics. He was a licensed operator of Amateur Radio.
He met the love of his life, Elizabeth and was married on June 12, 1965. They shared a love for photography and riding British motorcycles. When they were expecting their first child, their respect for the Bible and their desire to build a foundation of faith for their family motivated them to study the scriptures with Jehovah's Witnesses and they were baptized in 1967.
Nelson served as an elder in the Granby, CT congregation from 1974 to his death. His warm and gentle nature immediately put others at ease. He will be fondly remembered and deeply missed by all those who had the joy of knowing him. Together with Elizabeth, he photographed many weddings using his artistic vision to capture cherished memories. He found great satisfaction while installing and operating audio/video systems in many Kingdom Halls and convention centers.
He enjoyed quiet times at home with his family and vacationing together anywhere with a tropical beach. Nelson supported his family by working in various electronic and automotive careers before retiring in 2015.
In addition to his wife of 58 years, he is survived by their two sons Erik Roberts and wife Margo of Springfield, MA and Michael Roberts and wife Rebecca of East Longmeadow, MA.

I will always treasure the memories I have about the loving Christian couple Sparky and Liz and the times I was able to spend with them. Remembering the meetings at their home with gratitude. So missed. Joan W.

I knew Nelson (better known to me and our many friends as "Sparky") from about second grade in the Southwick school system. When we got into high school, we became interested in amateur radio together and were licensed at the same time. He was K1PIL and I was K1PIM. Ham radio led us both to our first jobs at Channel 22, WWLP, as studio engineers. Unfortunately, we drifted apart when I moved away after college, although we did make contact a few times in later years. I will always remember the good times Sparky and I had during the many years. May you rest in peace Sparky.
