Nelson Day Stubbs

Nelson Day Stubbs of Chesapeake City, MD, age 86, passed away Saturday, July 14, 2018. He was born on August 6, 1931 in Elkton, MD to the late Taylor Sharp Stubbs, Sr. and Wilda Adeline (McCauley) Stubbs. Nelson is survived by two sisters: Marjorie E. Austin of Chesapeake City, MD, and Dolores M. Ford of Warwick, MA; brother, Taylor Sharp Stubbs, Jr. of Chesapeake City, MD; three nephews: Joseph S. Ford of Galena, MD, Michael T. Ford of Warwick, MD and Daniel L. Ford also of Warwick, MD; two great-nephews: Daniel J. Ford and Jacob Ford; and great-niece, Lindsay M. Ford. Nelson served as Clerk of the Circuit Court for Cecil County, MD for over 17 years and was a former Chief Deputy Clerk and Deputy Clerk, having serving the local government for 34 years. During his working years, he also owned Capital Express, Inc., a small trucking firm. Nelson was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Chesapeake City, MD since 1946, having been Clerk of the Session for over 50 years. He was a member and officer of Meeting Ground for over 20 years and was the treasurer of their financial endeavor since its inception in the fall of 1995. Nelson worked part-time as a Co-Trustee of the H. Kenneth Mackey Second Trust (1992-2006) and H. Kenneth Mackey Marital Trust (1992-2003). He also did charitable works for the Salvation Army, Kiwanis Club and Gideons International. A graveside service will be held for Nelson on Saturday, July 21, 2018 at 9:30am at Bethel Cemetery, Chesapeake City, MD. Following the graveside service, a memorial service will be held at 11:00am at First Presbyterian Church, 351 Biddle St., Chesapeake City, MD 21915 where family and friends may begin visiting at 10:00am.
