Nelson Torres Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on May 23, 2017.
Nelson Torres was born in Sabana Grande, Puerto Rico on September 19, 1928.
He served and saw action in Korea and was honorably discharged with the rank of Corporal, in the Infantry Division of the United States Army.
Married the love of his life Lydia and together had 2 children Peggy and Nelson.
Spent most of his adult life in New York City, in the borough of Manhattan. Working as a food service supervisor, he continued his education at night attending classes at the City University of New York and earning his certification as a dietician. ired of the brutal NYC winters, he retired from the Health and Hospitals Corporation. It was time to build the house he had promised his caring wife Lydia. So, 32 years ago they built their little dream home in Deltona, Florida and filled it with memories and love.
He pursued his passion for Spanish Classical Guitars, which amazingly he made! He played and sang, there was always music in his soul.
His gifted mind and talent are apparent in all the touches he put into their home. He was an avid reader, loved the law, and enjoyed the opportunity to engage in a rousing debate over world affairs.
Sadly, his wonderful wife Lydia passed in January of 2011. They had shared 55 years together.
He continued to keep the dream alive but age and illness took their toll. On May 6th, 2017 he was admitted to ICU.... On May 22nd, 2017 God came to take him to Paradise and the waiting arms of his beloved Lydia. He died peacefully. He was 88 years old.
Survived by his daughter Peggy, son Nelson, daughter-in-law Dana and his cherished grandchildren Justin and Catherine. He also has a son Carlos, from a previous relationship. His siblings: sisters- Elsa, Awilda, Tuti, Annette ,Edna, Winda and brother Jose. His sister-in-law Irma and her husband Dimas Rodriguez were a staple at the family home.
My brother Nelson and I, Peggy, would like to make special mention of Nelson Torres' sister Annette and her husband Carmelo Vasquez. Carmelo spent every day providing great care, love attention and support that must be mentioned and praised. His love and devotion to my father Nelson Torres, brought him great comfort and joy. We are eternally grateful.

THINK

Of stepping on shore

And finding it Heaven.

Of taking hold of a hand

And finding it God's hand.

Of breathing a new air

And finding it celestial air.

Of feeling invigorated

And finding it immortality.

Of passing from storm and tempest

To an unbroken calm.

Of waking up

And finding yourself HOME.

Rest in Everlasting Peace with Lydia. Amen
