NELSON TRUJILLO Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Jun. 16, 2017.

Dr. NELSON TRUJILLO
A beloved colleague, friend, husband, father and grandfather who held a fierce love for his lifelong work as a physician.  A veteran of the United States Army, he received the Army Commendation Medal and served as Assistant Chief of Gastroenterology at Walter Reed Army Hospital. Following his military career, Dr. Trujillo established himself in private practice in Washington, DC where he continued to care for patients for more than 40 years while also serving as a Medical Consultant to the Department of State and the White House. Dr. T., as he liked to be called, believed in healing not just the body but also the heart and soul and pursued a licensure in acupuncture becoming one of the only local specialists who could perform acupuncture as a complement to standard treatment. He believed in the power of prayer, not only for his patients but anyone seeking physical, emotional and spiritual healing. Throughout his career, he was noted for his leadership not only in the local medical community but also nationally. In his retirement, Dr. Trujillo was active in "Volunteers In Medicine" Hilton Head SC., and was able to devote more time to his other passions in life, his beloved wife, Beth, their six children and 14 grandchildren. Of course still rated a priority was golfing and cooking cuisine from his home country of Cuba for family and friends. Beloved Husband, Father and Grandfather passed away on Sunday, February 12, 2017. He had a profound presence in our lives and will be forever missed. A funeral service was held in February.
