Nettie M. Betty A longtime resident of the Pine City community passed away unexpectedly, Sunday, June 17, 2001 while visiting in Syracuse, NY. Betty was born on June 16, 1929 in Elmira, NY, daughter of Wilbur and Mary Watkins Sickles. She was the wife of Harry Dunlap, who passed away on March 14, 1988. Betty was very active in the community throughout her life. She was a longtime member of the Pennsylvania Avenue United Methodist Church and for many years operated the food tent for the church at the Chemung County Fair. A member of the Pine City Fire Department Ladies Auxiliary where she held the office of treasurer for 22 years. The Past president of the Central New York Firemen's Auxiliary. The Past president of the Chemung County Fireman's Auxiliary. A member of the New York Fireman's Auxiliary. A member of the Kiwanis Club of Southport and the Home Bureau. She was known for her cooking ability, having been employed by several restaurants in the area during her life. She enjoyed being around people and time spent with her family and friends. Surviving is her loving family, a son and daughter-in-law, Mel and Linda Dunlap of West Elmira, NY; a daughter and son-in-law, Anna and Harry Goodwin of Syracuse, NY; grandchildren, Richard (Kathleen) Dunlap, Christopher Dunlap, Patrick and Casie Goodwin; great grandchildren, Kurtis, Hanna and Ryan Dunlap; sisters, Claudia (James) Tuttle of FL, Jean (Robert) Sharon of Elmira, NY, Beverly (Kenneth) Clark of Beaver Dams, NY, Grace (Chuck) Miller of PA, Nettie Brooks of Bath, NY, Beattie Ann (Ronald) Orme of Bath, NY; a brother, Jack Sickels of Bath, NY; a sister-in-law, Arlene (Glenn) Paul of Gillett, PA; a brother-in-law, Clair (Rose Ann) Dunlap of Moorseville, NC; along with several nieces, nephews and a community of cherished friends. Family and friends will be received at Caywood's Funeral Home & Gardens, 1126 Broadway, Southport on Wednesday, June 20, 2001 from 2-4 and 7-9 PM. Funeral services will take place on Wednesday (11AM) in the Pennsylvania Avenue United Methodist Church, 1238 Pennsylvania Ave, Pine City, NY with the Reverend William Vallett and the Reverend Frederick Turner officiating. Committal services will follow in Woodlawn Cemetery, Elmira where Betty will be buried next to her husband and friend, Harry Dunlap. Betty's family will, provide flowers, memorial donations may be directed to the Pennsylvania Avenue United Methodist Church, Kiwanis Club of Southport, or the Pine City Fire Department Ladies Auxiliary.
