LATHAM - Nicholas Barbuto Jr., 84, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, May 3, 2023, at home with his loving family by his side.
Nick was the son of the late Nicholas and Mary Barbuto. He proudly served with the United States Army from 1957-1960 where he was stationed in Germany. Nick was a highly skilled carpenter who had a long and dedicated career in building apartment complexes, and custom homes. He was a master at his craft and was extremely respected for his extraordinary work. In retirement, Nick built countless gifts for people including rocking horses, baby cradles, jewelry boxes, furniture and more. When he wasn't building something, he enjoyed spending time with his family playing cards and enjoying good Italian food. He loved sightseeing and exploring at his own pace on his motorcycle. He was an avid hobbyist; he loved building and flying RC model planes, playing chess, fishing, archery, and bowling, and loved spending his spare time at the casino.
Nick was predeceased by his first wife, Ruth K. Barbuto; his second wife, Elizabeth Barbuto; his sisters, Minnie Glusko, and Filomena Belleville; and his brother, Thomas Barbuto. Nick is survived by his children, Vicki (Michael) DiLorenzo, Laura (Jay) Young, Nicholas Barbuto and Jeff Barbuto; his sister, Barbara Quick; his sister-in-law, Betty Barbuto; seven grandchildren, Michael, Nicholas and Jessica DiLorenzo, Jay and Tyler Young, Raechel and Dominic Barbuto as well as eight great-grandchildren.
Calling hours will be held at New Comer Cremations & Funerals, 181 Troy Schenectady Rd., Watervliet, on Tuesday, May 9, from 4 to 7 p.m. A funeral service will be held on Wednesday, May 10, at 10 a.m. in the funeral home. Burial will follow the service in St. Agnes Cemetery, Menands.
