Thank you, Nick, for such good times with our families in Ocracoke! Meeting you all on the ferry and then ending up next door to each other at Edward´s for those weeks in July are seared in our souls. We love you always. Friends eternally.

If grief is love with no where to go, then I find myself prepared to pour much love into the legacy Nick will leave behind.
When we speak of illness, words like "battle" and "fight" always bubble to the surface, but find that language flawed for implying that someone has to lose. When it comes to Nick´s journey, our relationship and what he leaves behind, we all won. Because the world was a better place for having Nick in it-even if it was for a shorter time than we would want wanted.
Those decisions belong to a power higher than us though, and I´m thankful to have been not only a witness to Nicks´s faith journey, but also a beneficiary of it. I will be forever grateful for the role he played in leading me to Lamb´s Chapel where we both found spiritual footing, faith and community.
In the words of Irving Berlin, the song has ended but the melody lingers on. And, what lingers on after Nick´s passing are the footprints he leaves behind for me, our family, Deidre and more importantly Colin Jack and Aurelia who will carry the torch ahead towards a flourishing life because of his example.
We´ll remember you for your unrelenting perseverance in the face adversity and through it your journey toward spirituality. We will remember a life well lived and do our best to honor the melody that will linger in our hearts.
