Nim Wehby Smith

SMITH, NIM WEHBY born August 3, 1905, passed away peacefully at her home surrounded by her family on April 27th, 2006 after a brief illness. She was preceded in death by her loving husband of 45 years, Cecil Ellard Smith and her grandson, Peter Cecil Sandner. She was the youngest of seven children, four sisters and two brothers, who also preceded her in death. Nim graduated from St. Cecilia's Academy in Nashville, TN. Nim and Cecil were married October 10, 1927. "Mama Nim" was a loving, devoted wife and mother. She was a violinist, an excellent still-life artist, and traveled extensively. She was a member of Our Lady of Sorrows Catholic Church, Altar Sodality, Birmingham Music Club, and a volunteer for the Alabama Republican Party. Survivors are her daughters, Carol Ann Sandner (Joe) and Catherine Styslinger (Lee); son, Don Cecil Smith (Georgina), all of Mountain Brook. 12 grandchildren, Joseph Edward Sandner III (Barbara), Lynne Sandner Hennessy (Tim), Rita Nim Sandner Wright (Drew), Carol Ann Sandner Phillips (Frank), Lee Joseph Styslinger, III (Kelly), Jon Cecil Styslinger, Mark Joseph Styslinger, Sr. (Jennifer), Don Cecil Smith, Jr. (Vicki), Melanie Smith Gilchrist (Ron), Gina Smith Saab (Peter), Cathy Smith Turner (John), and Lisa Smith Sharp. 37 great-grandchildren include Joseph Edward Sandner, IV (Julie), Elizabeth Sandner Rich (Rusty), Sally Wallace Sandner, Timothy Cornelius Hennessy, Jr., Peter Sandner Hennessy, John Patrick Hennessy, Michael Joseph Hennessy, Abigail Lynne Wright, Katherine Ann Wright, Rita Cecil Sandner Wright, Virginia Carol Wright, Frank Hardy Phillips, Jr., Carol Ann Sandner Phillips, Margaret Nim Sandner Phillips, Patrick Don Gilchrist, Carolyn Adele Smith, Elizabeth Marie Smith, Peter Thomas Saab Jr., Nicholas Smith Saab, Georgina Marie Saab, Ann Ellard Turner, Catherine Claire Turner, Madeline Dalel Turner, Mary Alison Turner, Melanie Grace Turner, Mary Catherine Sharp, Anna Marie Sharp, Scott Thomas Styslinger, Paul Joseph Styslinger, Lee Joseph Styslinger IV, Sarah Cameron Styslinger, Jon Cecil Styslinger Jr., Matthew Conner Styslinger, Mark Joseph Styslinger, Jr., Claudia Overstreet Styslinger, Stella Smith Styslinger, Lydia Catherine Styslinger and great-great grandchild, Elizabeth Everett Sandner, all of Mountain Brook. Special thanks to her devoted caretakers Marcella Pittman, Darlene Long, Velma Bell and Christina Alexander. Visitation will be Monday, May 1, 2006 at 10:00 a.m. at Our Lady of Sorrows Catholic Church, with Funeral Mass to follow at 11:00 a.m. Pallbearers will be her grandsons.
