Nina Williams Obituary
Nina was born on January 6, 1929 to Tamara and Alexander Shwabe in Basra, Iraq. She is preceded in death by her parents, brother Igor Shwabe, and sister-in-law Joyce. Nina is survived by her niece Renee' Bertken and nephew Paul Shwabe (Anna).
The Countess became a naturalized US citizen in October 1974. She was ever thankful and giving back to a nation that welcomed her. She loved following politics and took great pride in earning the right to vote, which she understood to be a privilege. Nina kept and held dear, a hand-signed letter she received from her Congressional House of Representatives, member John B. Conlan, and her Senate Representative Barry M. Goldwater congratulating her.
Her career as a Registered Nurse (RN) spanned multiple hospitals and decades, from Toronto - General, Rochester - Genesee, Phoenix - Good Samaritan, St. Luke, John C. Lincoln, and Maricopa County Jail. Also volunteered her time with the Phoenix Police Dept.
Nina was vibrant and radiated light. She truly believed in the light of others and the light that carries us through God's word. She had an immense passion for global journeys, cruising, camping & fishing, painting, growing plants, reading books, and participating in a theatrical play. No one loved a needle & thread or sewing machine more than Nina. Crafts and sewing were at the epicenter of her joy throughout her life and demonstrated by donating over 7,000 handmade children's bears and dolls as well as numerous pillow & sunglass cases. Nina sent boxes of bears and gifts to the women and men of the US Armed Services.
The heart of the Countess was always open to be present in the lives of those who needed her. But none was greater than the love of animals, especially her dogs. She embodied the best qualities of a spiritual and virtuous woman. Nina was a true and loyal friend.
May she live in all our hearts for an eternity.
