Noel Stock

I never had the privilege of meeting this esteemed writer. But I read his biography of Ezra Pound (somewhat reluctantly, at the insistence of a friend)in 1976. Thirty-nine years later, entire passages of his work are still clear in my mind.

I'm sorry I never got to meet you, Mr. Stock. Thank you for your dedication, and the objectivity you displayed while writing about a person whom you knew and respected, despite his faults. May you rest in peace.

Noel Stock was a scholar and a gentleman, and a fine advisor.
I shall miss his insightful wisdom.
I arrive late at this particular sorrow, but it is still deep and painful.

I will forever admire Mr. Stock. He opened literary doors for me. I was once a young college student void of any appreciation for poetry, no more!
