Still missing you my wonderful friend. That much is obvious and i always will. I miss you and there was no one like you my brother Norman.
That's both as a person and as the amazing musician you always were. You are truly missed and i miss talking with you and doing music with you. You always made me laugh my head off and i miss that very much. Thinking of you today and like your Mom and Nancy said, i can't believe it's been seven years either. Always in my heart brother.

It's hard to believe that seven years have passed. We miss your voice, your smile, your music - we miss YOU! May God keep you in His loving arms until we are together, again.
Love,
Mom and Nancy

Miss you brother. This time of year, you think about people that you love and people that you lost. Both are true of you. You've been my best friend, my best bass player and my brother. I'll never forget you Norman. I miss talking with you and laughing with you. I miss the fits of tears from laughing so hard together. I was just thinking of you so thought i'd visit you here. Gone but never forgotten. You are sorely missed my brother.

I have never stopped praying for Norm ... He was my friend as well / I met Norm back in the Boardwalk days w/ Kenny & Robbie. Norm studied w/ Jaco for some time & when Jaco played Graffiti he knew & affirmed Norms talent. God Bless you buddy ... Rest in Peace

In the late 70's I played bass in a soul, funk, dance band in the Pittsburgh area called "Steppin Out". I never knew Norm that well but he knew our sax player Robbie Klien & Norm would show up at the Boardwalk in Castle Shannon wanting to know if he could sit in. No problem, I liked having a chance to sit back & hear how my bass setup sounded. Norm being the player he was always sounded great. I moved away from the Burgh in 86 and recently googled his name to see if it showed up, it was with great sorrow that I found another friend had passed nearly 5 years ago. RIP Norm you were one Cool Cat ...

Dear Aunt Elva & Nancy,
I just heard of Norb's passing, and I am so very sorry. I did not get to see him very often, but when I did, I thought he was so wonderful. I know that he's up there playing that bass for his dad and his Uncle Jim. Sending love and prayers always.

I was moved to tears when I read about Norby's passing.I met him back in the early 90's when he was Kenny Blake's bass player. We formed a very close knit relationship and me,also a bass player, was heavily influenced by his style. In 1994,he joined our band "From Red To Green".We did a few live shows together.I was the bass player/singer however,I was more than happy for him to take my place and I fronted the band.He taught me techniques that I still employ today.More than just a great musician,he was also my friend.Often times,he would stay at my house and we would just hang out and he would school me on current jazz perspectives.I was just so HONERED that he wanted to write with us.His influence on me is timeless.I still have our music on tape and would like to revive it so that people can hear the genious he possesed. Also,he is the 1 who introduced me to Pete Zeldman.Probably the most intricate drummer I have ever come across.Norby, more than your music,I miss YOU.I thank GOD that I was blessed to be your friend. You were 1 of a kind.Mrs. Hogel,I will miss your son greatly. The world is just not the same!!!Thank you Norby,You were the best!!!!!!!

I was extremely saddened to read of Norm's passing. I had the pleasure of playing with "Norb" (we called him Norb back then) in one of his first rock bands back in 1967-69 (see photo of Society - Norm is on far right). We had a lot of fun playing for the fraternity parties, on the Gateway Clipper, etc. in and around the Pittsburgh area. Norm had tremendous talent back then and I'm glad that he enjoyed it throughout his life. I remember him as a very kind-hearted and sweet soul. My thoughts and prayers go to his family. God Bless.

I am so sorry to hear this news. I always thought I'd get to hear "Stormin' Norman" play the heck out of that bass of his again. He was such a talented bass player...one of the best that Pittsburgh has had...and his love of his craft was always evident in his music. He was always so much fun, too, with his shy smile and his quick wit...I'll always remember the great times we all had. When the Parker Brothers played the Boardwalk there was always a packed house. I'll always remember the good times we had there and at other venues around the city in the late 70's and throughout the 80's.
My deepest condolences to Norm's family and to the Pittsburgh music community on the loss of this great musician.

I am so sad to hear that my friend Norman has passed.
We played together both in the Florida Band and one of my favorite memories of Norm we played in front of over 15000 jazz fans in Charlotte NC
He was the funniest most talented musician with a voice like a bird.
It has been a while that we spoke...
I offer my deepest of condolences to the family..
Jaco you have company
He will be missed...

I am devastated to hear this news of the passing of one of my best friends. I adored this man and remember him as a massive talent on his instrument. Norm was one of the funniest, finest, talented people i've had the pleasure of knowing in my life. We worked together in Atlantic City, and laughed so much. Working together was always a treat. We had a type of psychic communication via drums and bass. I send Elma and Nancy my heartfelt condolences and only wish i heard sooner to be there in the end. I kept in touch with Norman after i moved away to always see how he was doing. I loved that guy and will never forget him.
