Norbert Holm

HOLM, Norbert May 21, 1925 - February 5, 2011 Loving husband, father, grandfather and friend, Norbert passed away peacefully surrounded by family and friends. Survived by his wife of 55 years, Christa, sons Eric and Neil (Karin), daughters Astrid and Birgit, grandchildren Koji, Dasan ,Lucy, Nicholai, Anastasia, Petra and Maximilian. Norbert grew up in Hamburg, Germany and was drafted into the army in 1944. Released from the American army as a POW in 1946. He graduated from the University of Hamburg with a degree in Electrical Engineering in 1950. He then joined a leading import/export company as an international sales representative to expand the market for the German electronics industry in the Americas. A venture he pursued successfully for the next 5 years. During a visit to Canada in early 1956 he met and married within 12 days the love of his life and West Vancouver became their home. Norbert's passion for the electronics industry evolved into the creation of many diverse business ventures, such as Noresco of Canada Ltd. and the import and distribution of Aiphone intercoms throughout North America. Norbert became an accomplished and astute navigator and yachts man. He enjoyed boating with his family and friends aboard his beloved Grand Banks 42 Norista. He did several memorable cruises circumnavigating Vancouver Island numerous times, visited the Queen Charlottes and cruised to Alaska. Norbert's knowledge and wisdom pertaining to boating, electronics, physics, big band music and vast business experience will be missed by all that had the pleasure of knowing him.
