Norma Drow Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers from Sep. 14 to Sep. 20, 2023.
Norma Jean Nigl Drow, age 86, of Gainesville, Florida, passed away peacefully in her home on August 30, 2023 after a lengthy illness.

Norma was born May 17, 1937, in Standish, Michigan, to the late Richard and Agnes Nigl. She went to school in Standish and graduated from Standish High School in 1956. She started working for a local hospital and was able to buy her dream car, a 1957 candy apple red Chevy convertible. Norma enjoyed driving her car and hanging out with her best friends, Bette Ann Hines and Alma Hurd.

She married Edward (Sonny) Drow Jr. of Prescott, MI on May 31, 1958. She dedicated her life to being a loving mother to her eight children. In her free time, she enjoyed sewing and cooking, her homemade bread and cinnamon rolls were always a family favorite. She loved hanging out with her kids, grandkids, and great grandkids during family cookout gatherings. Her smiles were contagious, and her hugs were filled with warmth and love. She loved spending time watching the deer in the backyard, enjoying her cup of coffee and the "special" breakfast" cooked every morning by her son-in-law, and playing with her cats Peaches and Bindi, along with her dog Auggie. Norma found welcoming arms at the Zion Lutheran Church of Gainesville. She loved attending worship services, singing hymns with her fellow parishioners, and enjoyed spending time with her friends Dale Kirmse and many others.

Norma is survived by her eight children, Kathy (Randy) Armitage, Kenny Drow, Kevin (Carrie) Drow, Edward (Sally Smith) Drow, Rhonda (Anson) Armitage, Dale Drow, Robert (Dana) Drow, Teresa (Paul) Thacker, her sister Laverne Haas of Standish, many grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

She is preceded in death by her husband of 49 years, Edward Drow, her infant daughter Norma Jean Drow, her sister Betty Lara, and two daughters-in-law, Vicky Drow and Nancy Drow.

A Celebration of Life service will be held at Zion Lutheran Church, 1700 NW 34th Street, Gainesville, FL 32605 on Saturday, September 23, 2023 at 3:00p.m. Pastor Brian Wrobel will be officiating. There will be a reception following in the fellowship hall. Everyone is invited to come and share their memories of love and laughter with the family.

In lieu of flowers, the family asked that you consider a memorial contribution in Norma's honor to the Zion church building fund.

I knew Norma when I was a little girl, and started kindergarden in a little red one room school house in Johnsfield Township near Standish, Michigan. Two years later, the little red school house closed its doors. Norma and I were in different rooms, so we did not see each other much after that. I remember Norma well, after all these Years. I would see her from time to time, but not day to day. It is heart warming to know that my little kindergarten friend had a good life, with a loving family. My condolences to all of her family, her big sister, Lavern, as well. Norma was a lovely child who always had a smile on her face. RIP, little Norma.
