Apex, North Carolina - On January 31, 2023, Norma Jean Couch Evans, 87, passed peacefully into the presence of the Lord Jesus Christ.
Norma is survived by her husband of 69 years, Charles Cole Evans; her son, Rick Evans and wife, Ramona; daughter, Patricia Chapin, daughter, Jean Jackson and husband, Russell; son, Donald Evans and wife, Victorya; daughter, Kelly Thompson and husband, Wes; and her sisters; Gerry Crabtree, Betty Gattis, Evelyn Ham and Carolyn Evans. She is also survived by her 10 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her mother, Lillie Maxine Griffin Couch; father, William Vance Couch; son, Raymond "Scott" Evans; and her brothers; William "Billy" Couch and Harold Dean Couch.
The beloved family matriarch was a devoted Christian and loving wife, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt and friend. Her faith was central to her life and she was grateful to belong to a loving church family and Sunday School class. Norma was a devoted military wife and mother of six children. While North Carolina was home, for periods of her life, Norma lived and raised a family in Connecticut, Louisiana, Virginia, South Carolina, Hawaii and Japan. She loved staying busy, whether at church, spending time with her family, or baking her many famous desserts.
The Funeral will be held on February 5, 2023 at 2:30 p.m. at Highland Baptist Church, 8524 Crowder Rd, Raleigh, NC 27603. Interment will follow at Wake Chapel Memorial Gardens in Fuquay-Varina. A Visitation will be held prior to the service from 1 to 2:30 p.m. at Highland Baptist Church. The family would like to express their sincere gratitude to the wonderful doctors and nurses who have cared for Norma throughout the year. While flowers are welcome, donations to Highland Baptist Church or the American Cancer Society are also appreciated.
