Norma was born June 9, 1936, to Frank J. and Nathalia (Idler) Maas. She graduated from Rhame High School in 1954. On October 16, 1954, Norma married Harold Schneider and they raised six children together. They lived in Aberdeen, SD until 1974, when Harold’s work transferred them to Bismarck. Norma tended to her home and her family and also babysat the neighborhood children and sold Stanley, Tupperware, and Home Interior through in home parties. She was the bookkeeper for her husband’s trucking agency and worked for a number of years for the Hallmark Store in the Kirkwood and Gateway Malls.
Norma enjoyed reading and various crafts. She loved baking, especially caramel rolls, oatmeal raisin cookies, and homemade bread. Her Catholic faith was very important to her. She was a Catechist for a number of years when her children were growing up. Sunday Mass was the focal point of Norma’s life. When she cared for her husband as he journeyed through Alzheimer’s disease, they watched Mass on EWTN and had Holy Communion brought into their home. Norma’s final meal was the reception of the Eucharist on Palm Sunday. She needed “food for the journey”.
Blessed to have shared in her life are her children, Roberta Schneider of Minot, James Schneider of Northwood, Antoinette Schneider of Bismarck, and Tina (Jack) Eagon of Rhame; one sister, Mary of Bismarck; 3 grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren, Fr. Nick Schneider, Douglas Eagon and his children, Sloane and Nathan, and April Eagon.
Norma was preceded in death by her husband of 69 years, Harold, who passed away in 2023; sons, Richard and Donald; brothers, Kenneth, Milton, Charles, Larry, Donald, and Beryl; and sisters, Catherine and Mavis.
