Norman Domel received his crown of life on Saturday, August 6, 2011, at 92 years of age in Georgetown, Texas, surrounded by family. Norman was born on Friday, February 21, 1919 on the family farm near Walburg, the seventh of nine children born to John and Annie Kalmbach Domel. He was baptized on March 16, 1919 and was confirmed in his Christian faith on May 14, 1933 by Pastor Sieck in Zion Lutheran Church, Walburg. He attended Zion Lutheran School and graduated 7th grade. During World War II, Norman served in the Army Firefighting Engineers in North Africa and Italy. After 38 months he returned home at midnight on New Year’s Eve 1945. Norman married his sweetheart Ethel Doris Miller on October 13, 1946 at St. Peter Lutheran Church in Walburg. They were married 65 years. They first lived near Walburg and then moved to their lifelong home, a farm and ranch east of Georgetown. They had seven children, six of whom survive: Edith, Linda, Michael, Mark, Gary, and Douglas. They were active members of Zion Lutheran Church until 1980 when they helped found Faith Lutheran Church in Georgetown, where they were charter members. Norman was a farmer and rancher until his 90th birthday and also worked as a carpenter on construction crews building churches and schools in Austin for many years. Norman enjoyed deer hunting, volunteering with the Circleville VFW, playing 42, fishing, gardening, and dancing with wife Ethel. Norman and Ethel also helped found the Domel Family Reunion. Norman was preceded in death by an infant daughter, Diana Kay Domel, his parents John and Annie Domel, brothers Ben and Arthur Domel and sisters Malinda Noack, Alma Faske, Arine Faske, Hildegard Richter, and niece Carrie Lee Marx. Norman is survived by his wife Ethel, daughter Edith and husband Leon Bullock of Georgetown, Linda and husband David Domelsmith of Temple, Michael Domel and wife Barbara of Meridian, Mark Domel of Georgetown, Gary Domel and wife Kim of Spicewood, and Douglas Domel and wife Nancy of Santa Clarita, California; grandchildren Erin Bullock, Alison and husband Brian Hickson, Barry Bullock, Susan Domelsmith, Courtney and husband Todd Moses, Matthew Domel and wife Sarah, Mark Jonathan Domel and wife Stacy, Jessica Domel, Ryan Fergason, Christopher Domel and wife Crystalyn, Mason Domel, Marshall Domel, Joshua Domel and wife Laura, and Tabitha and husband Ian McNaught. He is survived by six great grandchildren: Ashley, Abby, Emily, Jack, and Gabriella Domel and Alexis Cox. Norman is also survived by brother Erich Domel of Jarrell, sister Anita Lefner of Round Rock, brother-in-law Bill Miller and wife Mary Ann of Georgetown, and sister-in-law Gretchen Walther of Arlington, as well as 12 nieces and 19 nephews. Pallbearers are Mark Jonathan Domel, Christopher Domel, Barry Bullock, Joshua Domel, Matthew Domel, Mason Domel, Marshall Domel, Brian Hickson, Ian McNaught, Todd Moses, and Frank Heinz. Honorary pallbearers are Dennis, Buster, and Dustin Davidson and Reverend Gerald and Terry Kieschnick. Visitation will be held from 7 to 9 P.M., Wednesday, August 10 at Ramsey Funeral Home, 5600 Williams Drive in Georgetown. The funeral service will be held at 9 A.M. Thursday, August 11 at Faith Lutheran Church, 4010 Williams Drive in Georgetown, with the Pastors Walter Pohland and John Selle officiating. Burial will follow at I.O.O.F. Cemetery in Georgetown. Memorials may be given to Faith Lutheran Church “4 Those 2 Come� or Smile Train International.
