Norman E. Hoffman

The funeral service for Norman E. Hoffman will be at 11 a.m.  Thursday, Nov. 10, at Immanuel Lutheran Church, Potsdam, rural Elgin, with the Rev. Dale Kohrs and the Rev. John Fuchs officiating. Burial will follow the service in the church cemetery.

Mr. Hoffman, 89, of Elgin, passed away at his home on Saturday afternoon, Nov. 5, 2016.

Norman Edward Hoffman was born March 8, 1927, in Olmsted County, to Edward and Ida (Siem) Hoffman. He attended the Potsdam School. Norman served his country in the Army from Nov. 8, 1954, to Nov. 7, 1956, during the Korean War.

Norman married Marian Miller on Aug. 29, 1953, at Potsdam. He farmed his entire lifetime in the Potsdam area. The Hoffmans moved into Elgin in 1987. Norman was also a mechanic's helper, especially for Duane Behnken in his later years.

Norman was very active in the Elgin American Legion where he served as commander for eight years, and received his 50 years' Service Award. He also served as the Wabasha County American Legion Chaplain for many years. Norman was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church - Potsdam and held various offices in the church.

Norman is survived by loving wife of 63 years, Marian Hoffman of Elgin; two sons, Kevin (Doreen) Hoffman and Tom (Jeanie) Hoffman, both of Elgin; and a daughter, Nanette (Gary) Christenson of Rochester; seven grandchildren and four great-grandchildren; and one sister, Lorraine (Edward) Tesmer of Millville. 

He was preceded in death by his parents, one sister, and one grandson.

Friends and family may visit from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 9, at the Schleicher Funeral Homes, Plainview Chapel in Plainview and one hour prior to the service Thursday at the church.  Memorials are preferred.
