Norman Horn Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers from Sep. 24 to Sep. 26, 2022.
Norman George Horn passed away on September 8, 2022 at the age of 84. Born on July 29, 1938 in Cincinnati, Ohio, he later became a devoted brother to his two younger sisters Marge and Marie. Norman was preceded in death by his parents George and Velma Horn. He is survived by his loving wife Carol of 60 years; his four children, Chris (wife Cathy), Jeff (wife Robyn), Jenny (husband Mike), and Jim (wife Marion); his nine grandchildren, Mitchell (Maggie), Matt, Bradley (wife Annamarie), Joe (Megan), Amanda (husband Payton), Brittany (Zach), Hunter (fiancé Jessica), Scott (wife Lauren), and Troy; his three great grandchildren Lucas, Paige and Jacquelyn. Norman was a true patriarch and cared deeply for every member of his family.

A devout and faithful Catholic, he was a Fourth Degree Knight in the Knights of Columbus. Throughout his life, Norman was very involved in the Church, and one ministry he and Carol enjoyed tremendously was sponsoring engaged couples as they prepared for the Sacrament of Marriage. He also volunteered as a Stephen Minister offering emotional and spiritual support to those in the faith community. In his retirement, he was head of the Liturgical Committee and lead singer in the choir at their church of 25 years, Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Mount Vernon, Texas.

Norman graduated from Dayton University in 1961 with a Civil Engineering degree. After graduation, he was employed by Turner Construction where he spent a total of 36 years. In the mid 1980's he left Turner for three years to work for Austin Commercial. Norman held many positions within his career and made his mark on numerous buildings in the U.S. and world-wide, including Sri Lanka. In 2000, Norman and Carol retired at their lake house in East Texas where he continued to share his expertise on the El Dorado Bay POA (Perspective Property Owners). He served as President, ACC Chair (Architect Control Committee), Rules Chair, and an advisor to the Board. He also served as Director for the Franklin County Historical Association in his retirement. Socially, his Eldorado Bay neighbors gathered once a month for the El Dorado Scotch Tasting Club of which Norman was the founding member.

Norman's influence on his family, friends, the Church and the construction industry leaves a profound legacy. He will be greatly missed.

A memorial will be held at 2:00 PM Saturday, October 22, 2022 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Mount Vernon, Texas.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in Norman's honor to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital https://www.stjudes.org, Stephen Ministries https://www.stephenministries.org, and the Alzheimer's Association https://alz.org

We enjoyed coming to know and love Norman and Carol! We miss their stories and smiling faces! Until we meet again friends! Norman even at his difficult moments reused himself to Our lady the last time we gave him communion he was having difficulty breathing and began praying Hail Mary full of grace... well done good and faithful servant!

I met Mr. Norm and his beautiful wife Carol in February of 2022 as a Legion of Mary member. He was such a wonderful and Godly man who loved his family fiercely. He made a tremendous impact on many people and we were blessed to know him if only for a short while.

I worked with Norm at Turner in Dallas. He was a great example of how to handle yourself with integrity, compassion and professionalism. He left a strong impression with me from my time working with him.

Norm and I were classmates at the university of Dayton, Class of 1961. Also, was in the Wedding party. I stayed in touch with he and Carol over the years and we visited them at the lake home in Scroggins, Texas. I will miss Norm as we enjoyed some similar things. My prayers go out to his family .
