Norman Clayton Poage Norman Clayton Poage, 65, died Dec. 24, 2010, in Plano, Texas. A memorial service will be held at a later date at Arlington National Cemetery in Virginia. Norman was born July 9, 1945, to Hugh Russell and Hallie Elizabeth Elliott Poage in Plainview, Texas. He graduated from Tulia High School in 1963 and went on to attend the University of Texas at San Antonio where he obtained a degree in accounting. Norman honorably served his nation in the United States Army during the Korean War and Vietnam War from 1963-1968. He served as a sergeant in the 1st Mechanized Battalion in the 50th Infantry. He was seriously wounded by a hostile mine in April 1968, resulting in his medical discharge from the Army. Norman was awarded the Silver Star, the Air Medal with Oak Leaf Clusters and the Purple Heart with Oak Leaf Clusters for distinguished gallantry in action. He also was awarded the Gallantry Cross with Bronze Star from the Republic of Vietnam, as well as many other awards. In June 2005, he married Christine Glenn in Silverton, Texas. He was a retired senior auditor for General Accounting office in Dallas, Texas. Norman was a member of St. Alice Catholic Church in Plainview. He was preceded in death by his parents. Norman is survived by his wife, Christine Poage of Plano; his sons, Robert Clayton Poage of Plano, Joshua Jay Poage of Austin, Collin David Poage and his wife, Stephanie, of Oxford, England, Jordan Stacy Poage of Houston and Jonathan Russell Poage of Dallas; his daughters, Kendra Ruth Luteijn and her husband, Erroll, of Dallas and Kara Elizabeth Poage of Dallas; stepson, Jeremy Brazzel and his wife, Brandie, of Dallas; stepdaughter, Heather Guzman and her husband, Joe, of Plano; brother, Hugh Elliott Poage and his wife, Vicki, of Liberty Hill; sister, Hallie Elizabeth Boggs of Kress; seven grandchildren; four step-grandchildren; one great-grandson; and uncles, aunts, nephews, nieces and cousins.

Norm once saved me from serious personal harm in combat. He was my Squad Leader and friend. I will always remember his calm and reasuring presence in battle. My condolences to his family.
