Norman Pratt Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Jan. 22, 2025.
Scottsdale - Norman Frederick Pratt, affectionately known as Fred, passed away on January 14, 2025, with his family by his side. He was 98 years old. Born in Pachuca, Hidalgo, Mexico, to Cornish parents, Fred was the youngest of eleven children. His life was a remarkable journey filled with dedication to family, innovation, and service to his country.

Fred moved to Texas to attend high school and later relocated to Ypsilanti, Michigan, where he lived with his sister Isabel. Though he was a Mexican citizen, in 1944 he volunteered for the U.S. Army to serve during World War II, at which time he chose to become a citizen of the United States. After being discharged, Fred utilized the GI Bill to earn a Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical Engineering from Michigan Technological University. His education and determination laid the foundation for a successful career in engineering.

In 1951, Fred returned to Mexico, where he proposed to the love of his life and childhood sweetheart, Alicia Lozano, and they were married in May of 1952. Together, they raised five children: Alicia Rosalie (Stephen), Fred (Heather), Cyndi (Tim), Norm (Nancy), and Alyson (Taryn). Fred was a loving husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather who devoted his life to his family. He is survived by his wife, Alicia, their five children and their spouses, ten grandchildren, and fifteen great-grandchildren.

Fred's career at Garrett AiResearch (now Honeywell) spanned many years, where he achieved the leadership position of General Manager of Instrumentation. Throughout his career, Fred was recognized for his brilliant, inventive mind, holding numerous patents that contributed to the field of engineering.

His number one passion in life was his family. Fred was deeply involved in his children's scouting, sports, and religious formation, always providing them with love and beautiful traditions that have been passed down through generations. His kindness, humor, and generosity were celebrated by all who knew him. Fred is revered by family and friends alike for his unwavering support and the warmth he brought to every relationship.

A memorial Mass will be held in his honor on February 12th at 11:30 a.m. at St. Patrick Catholic Community Church at 10815 N. 84th St, Scottsdale, AZ 85260, with a private family interment immediately following. Fred's legacy of love, integrity, and service will continue to inspire all who were fortunate to know him. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Hospice of the Valley Team O.

My condolences to your old neighbors. Mr and Mrs Pratt where always great friends to my parents. They always kept in close contact with them throughout their years living and raising the children in Scottsdale. I was truly sad to hear of Fred's passing. My father Robert (Bob) passed away just days before Fred, on January 10th 2025 at the age of 93. This world was a better place with both of them in it and their legacy will live on.

Blessings to the family

My Daddy was the most kind, caring, gentle and loving man.

When I was a young girl, he taught me how to ride my first 2-wheeler, and as I reached my teens, he taught me how to drive my very first car.

He loved talking to me about our ancestors on both sides of the family and I was hungry to learn. He loved genealogy and passed that love on to me.

As I got even older, I learned what kind of qualities I would look for in a man. All I had to do was watch and witness the love he shared with my Mom. She was the love of his life, just as he was hers.

When I reached my twenties I became married and would drop in whenever I had the chance to visit my parent´s. As soon as I would step into their house, Daddy would forever say..."Hey, good lookin!" And whenever I would call and be talking to my Mom on the phone, I could hear him yelling "Hi Cyndi Pindy, or Hi Moochie!" Yes, that was what he nicknamed me for as long as I can remember. Why Moochie? I have no idea, but I came to love it, and still love it to this day! I could go on and on...

Until I see you again Daddy, I know you´re looking down from the heavens and still taking care of us. And we´re looking up at you and saying "Salud!"

I will love you always and forever my Papacito.
