SPROUL, Dr. Norman Sproul, D.D.S.
October 2, 1913 - February 20, 2014
Dr. Norman Sproul passed away at home on February 20, 2014 with his daughter by his side. He was born in Chatham New Brunswick on October 2, 1913, the youngest of 7 children to Dr. George Jasper Sproul and Janie Amanda Sproul, nee Searle. In December, 1941 he married Marjorie Campbell Armitage from Deseronto, Ontario. He graduated from University of Toronto Faculty of Dentistry in 1943. He served in the Canadian Army from 1942 to 1946 rising to the rank of Captain. Following the war he opened a dental practice in Kingston, Ontario. He was awarded the Queen's Silver Jubilee medal in 1977 for his contribution to geriatric dental care. He retired to Vancouver in 1986. He was an avid fisherman, gardener, and world traveller. He loved the outdoors and his family. He was predeceased by his parents, siblings and his loving wife, Marjorie. He is survived by his daughter, Dr. Jane Sproul who will miss him dearly and by nieces and nephews. He was loved by his many friends and relatives for his quick wit and intelligence which remained with him to the end. He loved life and lived it to the fullest. We would like to thank the many care personnel who assisted in his final days and Dr. Duncan Miller who looked after him for years. A Funeral Service will be held in the Chapel of Forest Lawn Funeral Home, 3789 Royal Oak Avenue, Burnaby on Saturday, March 1st, 2014 at 1:00 pm. Interment to follow in Forest Lawn Memorial Park.

Hi Jane, this is Phil McCann formerly of Queens Acres from the mid 1950's. Reading about your Dad brought back fond and vivid memories from 60 years of my spending time at your house while you read the paper. I was thrilled to see that you entered medicine. My journeys took me to North Carolina and into law. Our older daughter is a lawyer in NYC and our younger daughter is a computer engineer with Amazon in Seattle. I treasure my memories of you and your parents and extend my thoughts and best wishes to you.

Dear Jane - Ernie and I were so sorry to see the announcement of your father's death. No matter how old we are, the death of a parent always leaves us feeling like an orphan. Abandoned by the one person who knew you from the beginning; to whom you never had to explain. You were very lucky to have been able to enjoy him for so many years and we are sure you have lots of happy memories. Our affectionate regards. Lynn and Ernie Ledgerwood

Words that come to mind when I think of my friend Norman Sproul: always the gentleman, extremely intelligent but never pretentious, very kind and generous, great sense of humor, fantastic storyteller, good listener, always positive about life and very grateful for his life, wife, daughter, other family members, friends, work, travel and hobbies. Norman is a fabulous role model for gracious living and will be greatly missed!!

HI Jane
I have such dear memories of staying with you and your family on Lake Ontario so many years ago. Your parents were always so nice to me, as were your aunt and uncle Armitage, my family's next door neighbours in Toronto.
Hope you are well.

Dear Jane, we all enjoyed Dr. Norman Sproul's quiet company each time all of you joined the happy crowd for dinner at the Vancouver Community College.
With your father living to 100 years old, he certainly saw a lot of changes on this planet. I am sure he will never be forgotten by his dental patients, friends & relatives whose lives he touched.
My heartfelt sympathy Jane as you cling onto your own precious memories.
