Norman Strande Obituary

Norman William Strande, age 82, of Emerald, WI passed away in Aitkin, MN on October 1, 2023. Norm served in the US Marine Corps from 1960-1965, 2 years stationed in Japan. He attended Columbia Heights High School and the University of MN. He spent his career as an industrial arts teacher. A gifted woodworker and artist, he also enjoyed reading, fishing, traveling and camping. Norm had a wonderfully dry sense of humor and a great appreciation of nature and the outdoors which he instilled in his children and grandchildren. Norm is survived by his children, Beth (Dan Haasken) Strande, William (Amy) Strande, Linda (Steven Monette) Michie, Patty (Bret Ethier) Michie, Carrie (Michael) Simmons, Darci (Jim Amidon) Michie; grandchildren, Caitlin, Natalia, Alexander, Spencer, Sydney, Bailey, Madelyn, Daniel, Joseph, and Francesca. Great-grandchildren, Lincoln and Cecilia. Brother, James (Ginger) Strande; brother-in-law, John Sufka. Norm was preceded in death by wife, Bonnie Michie; mother, Avis Heitman; step-father, Fred Heitman; sister, Sharon Sufka; son, Joshua Strande. Norm's legacy will live on in those fortunate to know and love him. In lieu of memorials, go outside and enjoy the sunset.

Beth and Will I'm sorry for your loss. Norm was one of a kind. My favorite memories were Darci and I traveling with him and Bonnie. Especially our trip to Alaska, our BWCA trip and many other adventures. I learned a lot from Norm over the years. We spent many days fishing together and although fishing was the focus Norm had a great outlook on life. He was always looking for the next great thing. RIP Norm.

He will be greatly missed. Norm was absolutely a unique, talented, funny, slightly crazy man. Oh, the "Norm Stories" we have, and the cherished memories we will draw on for the rest of our lives! A great stepfather to us, and a legendary grandpa to all of his grandchildren. Thank you for writing such a nice obit, Beth. I'm sure he would heartily approve of the sunset idea.
