Norman THOMAS Obituary

Published by Vancouver Sun and/or The Province from Jun. 27 to Jun. 28, 2014.
THOMAS, Norman Stephen
It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Norman Stephen Thomas. Our father passed away suddenly on June 23, 2014 in LGH. Born in Kimberley, BC in 1930 of English parents, Norman, one of five children, was the only one to go to University (UBC) and eventually became owner/operator of Norman's Pharmacy. Norm was a past President of Rotary and the College of Pharmacists of BC and was the inspiration behind 'The Pines' Special Care Home. In 1978 Norm moved his family to Vancouver after becoming Registrar of the College of Pharmacists, a position he held until retiring in 1995. Norm spent much of his retirement travelling and enjoying his time with family. Norman had numerous accomplishments in his life, not the least of which was being a devoted and loving husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather, loyal friend and a true and noble gentleman, mentor and role model to many. He had a wonderful sense of humour, was giving of himself, appreciative of the small things in life and had a passion for music and art with a strong thirst for knowledge. He leaves behind his adoring wife and lifelong partner of 59 years, Catherine (Hennessey), five children Cara (Pat), Paula (Terry), Jeff (Caroline), Greg (Kim) and Andrea (Greg), twelve grandchildren and one great- grandchild. It can be said by all that knew him, at 84, he was the youngest man we knew. Good bye Dad, you will always be in our hearts. A private Celebration will be held in his honour at a future date. In lieu of flowers, please make donations to The Vancouver Prostate Centre c/o VGH & UBC Hospital Foundation, a donation webpage has been setup in his name at: http://www.prostatecentre.com/donate

I had the pleasure of working with Norm when he did pharmacist relief work up North in Kitimat. We always looked forward to Norm coming to work with us and started to count down the days when he would arrive full of hugs and laughter. He was an incredible man who was hilarious, fun and incredibly caring. One of the best! My deepest symphathies to Norm's family.

Well my gosh, what can I say about such an amazing man. I have enjoyed each and every conversation that we've had over the years, and each time we've spoken I've always walked away feeling so renewed. Thank you for talking and listening and laughing over the years, it was great. Norm, my family will miss you greatly, thank you from the bottom of our hearts for being the incredibly warm and caring spirit you were. We will never forget you. Love, Donna, Mariah, and Tianna Williamson

Dear Catherine and Family.
I had the honor to meet and work with Norm while he was Registrar and came to know him as a caring pharmacist, inspirational leader and above all as a wonderful person. He will be missed, and please accept our sincerest condolences.

I can picture Mr. Thomas in the Pharmacy in Kimberley and remember him to be friendly and gracious. I have always admire the picture in our school yearbook (1975) of Cara dancing with her father at our graduation ceremony. Debbie McArthur, Qualicum Beach, BC
