Norman Van Huff
March 16, 1930 - May 28, 2021
Roseville, California - With sadness, we announce that Norman Van Huff, loving husband, father and grandfather passed away at the age of 91. He was born in Detroit, Michigan to Bert and Thelma Van Huff. He is survived by his loving wife of 28 years, Patricia Abraham, his children, David Van Huff, Terri Polani, Nancy Rodriguez (Joe), two granddaughters, Audrey and Ella Van Huff, his stepchildren, Lon, Lisa and Franci Abraham. He was preceded in death by his parents, his son Keith Van Huff and step-son Daniel Abraham.
Upon high school graduation, Norm entered the United States Air Force from 1948-1952. He then attended Wayne University for a Bachelor's Degree where he received a fellowship to the University of Pittsburgh. He married Dorothy Brainard and they moved to Pittsburgh for his Master's and Ph.D. degrees as a chemical engineer. While receiving his education he worked for the Westinghouse Corporation in the nuclear field. In 1963, the family moved to Sacramento where he was employed by Aerojet in the space program.
In 1979, he moved to Seattle where he worked as an engineer for the Boeing Company for 12 years. While in Seattle, he became interested in doing calligraphy. Upon retirement, he moved to Roseville, California and signed up for a watercolor class to connect with his calligraphy. After a brief courtship, he married the teacher, Patti on September 25, 1993.
Norm was a golfer and continued to play golf with his buddies at Sierra View County Club into his 80's. He never lost the drive to learn something new. Norm was talented, artistic and gentle. He loved helping others and was often devoted to a project. He was very involved in Patti's art, genealogy, and the computer. The couple enjoyed travel, especially their cruise to Fiji/South Seas and an unforgettable trip to Hawaii where they swam with the dolphins in the ocean.
Services will be held in August at the Sacramento Valley National Cemetery in Dixon. A 'Joy of Knowing' Celebration will be held at the Sierra View Country Club.
