John Schaufler

John H. Schaufler, 72, of Teutopolis died at 1:05 p.m. Saturday, March 22, 2008, at St. Anthony’s Memorial Hospital, Effingham. The funeral will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church, Teutopolis, with burial in the church cemetery. Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the church with a 7 p.m. parish wake service. Memorials may be made to the Healing Garden at St. Anthony’s Memorial Hospital, Effingham. Bauer Funeral Home, Effingham, is in charge of arrangements. Mr. Schaufler was born Feb. 24, 1936, in Milwaukee, the son of John M. and Mildred (Hubbartt) Schaufler. He married Betty M. Wernsing Oct. 28, 1961, and she survives. He worked as an electrician in the maintenance department at St. Anthony’s Memorial Hospital, Effingham, retiring in 1998 after 39 years of service. Mr. Schaufler was a member of St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church, Teutopolis, St. Francis Men’s Sodality and des Colores. He served an enlistment with the U.S. Air Force. Survivors include his wife of Teutopolis; sons, John L. of Teutopolis, Gary (wife, Lynn) of Effingham, Robert (wife, Lauren) of Champaign, Richard (wife, Annabelle) of Teutopolis and David (wife, Erin) of Tulsa, Okla.; daughters, LeAnn (husband, Roy) Meyer of Tuscola, Linda (husband, Dennis) Wendling of Watson and Lois (husband, Mark) Zwettler of Teutopolis; stepsisters, Shara (husband, Max) Storm of Rock Hill, Mo., and Beverly (husband, Rick) Lattin of Spring Lake, Mich.; 12 grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and two stepgrandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; and one sister, Nancy.
