CARROLL, MRS. LOUISA ROBERT, 90, of Sea Island, Ga., died June 2, 2005. She was preceded in death by her first husband, Grant Meade LeRoux and her second husband, George Carroll and her parents, L.W. " Chip" Robert and Louise Ayers Robert and her brother, Lawrence Wood Robert III and by her granddaughter, Louisa LeRoux Knight. Her father, L.W. "Chip" Robert, was a well known Atlanta architect and engineer who also served as Assistant Secretary of the Treasury in the Roosevelt Administration. The beautiful and talented Louisa Robert was President of the Atlanta Debutant's Society and the Young Democrats of Georgia. A gifted swimmer, she was champion of the Presidents Cup Regatta, National AAU Champion, Southeastern AAU Champion, all in the 100 meter backstroke (swimming). In 1932, she was the first woman from Atlanta to make the Olympic Swim Team. Louisa was one of several southern women selected to audition for the role of Scarlett O'Hara for the movie " Gone with The Wind". She attended Agnes Scott College and was a member of the Junior League of Atlanta and also Coral Gables, Florida. One of the proudest moments in Louisa's later life was the dedication of a stately oak tree in downtown Brunswick, Georgia, to her that is known today as the "Louisa Oak". The ceremony took place during the passing of the torch through Brunswick for the 1996 Olympic Games held in Atlanta. She is survived by her sister, Alice (Birney) Robert, of Warrenton, VA.; her sons, Grant Meade LeRoux, Jr., of Atlanta and Charles Morrison LeRoux II, of Newnan, GA.; her daughter, Louisa LeRoux Knight of Sea Island, Ga.; four grandchildren, Grant LeRoux IV, Christina Rushing, Katherine LeRoux, Jonathan LeRoux, Louisa LeRoux, all of Atlanta, Charles LeRoux III and Caroline LeRoux, both of St. Simons Island, Ga.; her step grandchildren, Lauren Bollinger of Raleigh, N.C. and Ellen Crowell of Newnan, Ga., and 3 great-grandchildren. The family will receive friends Wednesday evening, June 8, 2005 from 6 until 8 PM at Spring Hill. A memorial Service will be held Thursday, June 9 at All Saints Episcopal Church at 11 AM. I remember the good times we all had at the Ambassador Restaurant. My husband was one of the owners and George Carroll was also. We spent many great evenings together. I truly loved Louisa and am sad to hear of her death. She will always be remembered as a wonderful happy person.
