Lawrence E. Piatt, Sr., 92, passed away Monday, April 25, 2011 at George Ade Memorial Healthcare in Brook. Lawrence, a lifetime resident of Jasper County, was born July 21, 1918, the son of William J. Piatt and Laura (Price) Piatt.
Lawrence attended school in Fair Oaks, graduating with the class of 1938. He served with the 101st Airborne in the U.S. Army. Lawrence was an avid fan of the Chicago Cubs.
On May 5, 1949, in Rensselaer, Lawrence married Ida E. Moosemiller who survives.
He retired from the Parr Elevator in 1983, where he had been a feed deliveryman for 18 years. Lawrence was a former employee of the Indiana State Highway Department, and prior to that he and his wife owned and operated the Parr Grocery Store.
Surviving with his loving wife Ida are seven children, Lawrence Piatt, Lafayette, Richard (Beckie) Piatt, Lake Wood Ranch, Fla., Mary (Ron) Alson, Rensselaer, Patti (Rod) Gonso, Crawfordsville, John (Jeannie) Piatt, Columbus, William Piatt, Rensselaer, and James (Jennifer) Piatt, Milford, Mich.; 13 grandchildren, four great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.
Lawrence was preceded in death by his parents, five sisters and his twin brother.
Friends may call at the Jackson Funeral Chapel in Rensselaer from 9 a.m. - 11 a.m. April 30.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at the Jackson Funeral Chapel with Pastor Larry Piatt officiating. Burial will follow at the Mt. Calvary Cemetery in Rensselaer. Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society or the St. Augustine Catholic School.
