David Kahn Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers from Aug. 12 to Aug. 13, 2014.
Kahn, David K.
Jun. 24, 1939 - Aug. 7, 2014
Dave was the one of the most selfless people one could ever encounter, and yet always managed to live life in his own unique way. It was not uncommon to ask if Dave had been somewhere or done something, and the answer was always 'of course he has'.
Dave died peacefully in Lakewood Ranch Hospital, 75 years after his New York City beginnings. Family gathered at his bedside, and he was at peace having had the recent chance to meet and hold his first grandchild, Joselyn.
After completing his studies at Queens College, Dave was a New York State bank examiner for almost 30 years. During his career, he reviewed numerous bank policies to prevent discrimination against the less fortunate. While he worked with many influential bankers, one of his favorite assignments was examining the practices of check cashers. During one of his assignments, a nearby robbery left a bullet hole in the front window of his car.
Among countless other things, Dave visited more than 100 different countries, joined the military, was convinced to parachute out of an airplane by a Wiccan practicing neighbor, lent a large sum of money to a new neighbor from Iran to help open a restaurant, shot video footage of one of his son's early birthdays at Burger King wearing a giant cowboy hat, attended every single one of his son's high school tennis matches, and always supported his wife and son in each and every facet of their lives.
Active in politics throughout his life, Dave ran for mayor of New York as a Libertarian candidate. Always a political maverick, he later ran for New York City Council with the motto that if elected he would ensure that the 90% affirmative rating of all actions by the mayor which the council had to approve would drop significantly.
He leaves behind his loving wife of 49 years Brenda, son Philip, daughter-in-law Alison, sister Barbara, nieces Jillian and Amanda, and granddaughter Joselyn. In lieu of flowers, donations in Dave's memory may be sent to: National Parkinson Foundation, Gift Processing Center, PO Box 5018, Hagerstown, MD 21741
A memorial service in New York is planned for a later date. Condolences may be offered at www.palmsrobartsfuneralhome.com.

My deepest sympathy to you Brenda and your family.

It was so wonderful to meet Dave a few years ago at a party and loved my conversation with him.
