Beverett Thompson, Sr., 83, was born March 6, 1934 in Wesson, MS, to the late Lena Thompson and Bilbo Willis, he met and married Dorothy Hendley in Wiggins and raised 7 children in Gulfport, Beverly (Wilbert) Williams, Francesca (Charles) Flagler, Beverett (Kim) Thompson Jr., James (Kimberly) Thompson, Donald (Venette) Thompson, Patrick (deseased) (Tisha), and Mitchell (Lori) Thompson.
Serving in the US Navy, he was the 1st Black fireman at the Navy Base in Gulfport and was a devoted deacon of both McDowell Memorial COGIC, Gulfport and New Zion Baptist Church, Wiggins.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 37 years, Dorothy; son, Patrick; and brothers, James, Arthur, and Bobby Ray.
Later he remarried and is survived by his wife, Mildred Monroe Thompson; step-children, Victor Monroe, Lynn (Willie) Coleman, Clarence (Alice) Monroe, Louise (JD) Walker, Darryl (Mary) Monroe, Paul Monroe, and Nina (Shannon) Hinton; first cousin, Reginia Williams; and a host of grandchildren, great-grandchildren, other relatives and friends.
Funeral service: Sat., Nov. 4, 2017, 11 AM at McDowell Memorial COGIC, with visitation at 10 AM.
