Elizabeth Adele Bass "Betty Adele" Verchot, 81, of Decatur died Wednesday, Feb. 7, 2007, peacefully at home after a lengthy illness surrounded by members of her family. The family will receive friends today, Feb. 10, 2007, from noon to 2 p.m. at Ridout's Brown-Service Funeral Home. Graveside services will be held imme-diately following at 2 p.m. at Roselawn Memorial Gar-dens by the Rev. Randy VanLandingham.
Beloved by her family, Mrs. Verchot was herself a loving wife, mother, grand-mother, great-grandmother, daughter and loyal friend. Betty Adele Bass, daughter of William Alva and Mary Robb Finney Bass, was born and raised in the Ensley Highlands section of Bir-mingham. She was educated in the Birmingham city schools and at Birmingham Southern College. In her early years, she was em-ployed by the IRS in Bir-mingham and at Auburn University. A resident of De-catur since 1961, her most enjoyable moments were spent with family and friends, flower gardening, sewing and with her pets.
She is survived by her husband of 60 years, Edgar A. Verchot; three children, retired Lt. Col. Edgar Verchot Jr. of Springfield, Va., Richard Verchot of De-catur and Martha Verchot of Birmingham; two daughters-in-law, Deborah Verchot of Springfield, Va., and Lucinda Verchot of Decatur; seven grandchildren, Edgar (April) Verchot III of Marysville,Ohio, Lorraine (Jeff) Car-penter of Springfield, Va., Eileen (Rodney) Hall of Auburn, John (Janette) Ver-chot of Decatur, Eric Verchotof Springfield, Va., MaryBeth Verchot of Birmingham and Brian Verchot of De-catur; and great-grandchild, Taylor Verchot of Marysville, Ohio.
The family also wish to ac-knowledge five loving, loyal caregivers, Linda Dempsey, Kimberly Scott, Lori Rob-erts, Kerri Whitlow and Linda Forman.
In lieu of flowers, the fam-ily suggest that memorial donations be made to Ninth Street United Methodist Church, Hospice of the Val-ley or a charity of choice.

I remember Mrs. Verchot as one of my laboratory patients in the office of Dr. Sidney Chenault. She was a very kind and friendly lady. Mr. Verchot, you also were always cheerful and kind. My thoughts and prayers are with you.
