GATES – Stanford W. “Wess,” 73, Johnstown, died Oct. 21, 2007, at LaurelWood Convalescent Center. Born March 17, 1934, in Johnstown, son of the late Stanford D. and Margaret (Kristoff) Gates. Survived by loving wife of 52 years, the former Anna Mae Misurda, and these sons: Thomas Gates, Maryland; Robert, and friend, Jackie (Blasko) Forsythe, LaPorte, Ind.; Louis, married to the former Susan Solich, Johnstown; Michael, married to the former Elizabeth Kush, Gibsonia; and Clifford Gates, Mexico, Pa.; grandchildren, Thomas Jr., Cory, Kristie, Brianna, Alayna, Stephen, Natalie, David and Wesley Gates; and two great-granddaughters, Emma and Maliah Gates. A brother of Owen Gates and Marjorie, wife of Jim Dunmeyer, both of Johnstown; Shirley, wife of Stan Wozniak, Windber. Retired manager of the glass department for McClure and McClure Co. A member of St. Clair Tremont Trap and Field Club, the Russian Club and First Lutheran Church. Friends received from 2 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Francis G. Ozog Funeral Home Inc., Broad Street, where funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, the Rev. Eleanor Arbano. Committal, Forest Lawn Cemetery.

I asked Lou about Wess when I was back for Labor Day. I will miss our talks about "the good old days" when we got together. The family has my deepest sympathy.
