Joanne Shultz Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Nov. 29, 2007.
Shultz, Joanne SCHENECTADY Joanne Pacifico Shultz, died suddenly and unexpectedly on November 15, 2007 at St. Clare's Hospital in Schenectady following knee surgery. She was 52. Jo was born in 1955 in Schenectady to Angelo and Louise (ne? Giulietti) Pacifico, and was a student at Schenectady schools, graduating from Linton High School in 1973. She studied for a time at SUNY at Albany, but a series of restaurant jobs led her into management roles at TGI Friday's restaurants in Albany, N.Y. and Parsippany, N.J. After a long courtship, she married Kent A. Shultz, also from Schenectady in 1987. In 1990, at the time of the birth of their son, Bryan Christopher, they returned to Schenectady, where they have ever since lived on Campbell Avenue in Bellevue. After taking time off from work to look after her son, she went to work for six years until recently at the Mohawk Pathways Girl Scout Council. She is survived by her husband, Kent Shultz, who works as a piano technician in the Capital District area and for the University at Albany Music Department, and her son Bryan, who is a student at Schenectady High School. Her mother-in-law, Wylan Shultz, lives in Goshen, Ind. Her brother, Philip Pacifico and his wife Kathy also live in Schenectady, their children are Michael, Sarah, and David Pacifico. Jo thoroughly enjoyed (her own phrase) her work at Girl Scouts, both with her fellow staffers and with the volunteers. Jo was an avid birder. Family October vacations to Cape May, N.J. to watch migrating hawks had been a part of her family life for most of the past two decades. She was the family's social director and travel planner, and in every way the heart of her household. Jo will be missed by all who knew her, and missed most keenly by those who knew her best and loved her. A memorial service is scheduled for Friday, November 30 at 11:00 a.m. at the Griswold Funeral Home, 1867 State Street, Schenectady, NY 12304, phone 518-374-6188, with a visiting time from 10:00 a.m. In lieu of flowers, those who wish to make a memorial contribution to a conservation organization dear to Jo's heart should send checks payable to the Cape May Bird Observatory to Kent A. Shultz, 2101 Campbell Avenue, Schenectady, NY 12306. Those who would rather contribute to a fund towards Bryan's college education should send checks payable to Wylan Shultz (his grandmother) to Kent Shultz at the same address.
