Published by Legacy Remembers from Jul. 25 to Jul. 27, 2009.
Odelie Sidonie Marie (Benoit) Johnson February 28, 1920 July 23, 2009 Odelie passed away suddenly at her home on Thursday, July 23rd, 2009 at the age of 89 years. Mom was born in Domremy to Evariste and Pauline Benoit. Even recently Mom enjoyed talking about the fun she had playing ball as a young woman, curling, and fishing with Dad and the gang. Mom grew up in St. Louis with her ten brothers and two sisters. Mom graduated in 1944 from Nursing School at Holy Family Hospital in Prince Albert. To the very end Mom thought of herself as a nurse and was proud of her accomplishments. Mom was a great nurse. Mom married Curtis Johnson in 1950. Mom and Dad farmed near Domremy, where they raised their four girls until 1976, when they sold the farm and moved to Prince Albert. Warmer winters in the Okanogan drew them to Penticton, BC where they lived for a couple of years until Saskatoon became home again. They would put up with the cold winters in favour of good fishing in summer. It was all about fishing! Mom and Dad so loved the trips to the northern lakes with Leo and Adelaide Doucet, Margarite and Newell Johnson, and Lucien and Aurelia Bremner. Mom loved to talk politics; she had strong opinions on everything political and she stayed current by watching news channels faithfully. Mom loved the Blue Jays with a passion. In fact she did everything passionately. Mom loved her family; she relished time spent at family get togethers, and especially visits with grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was always quilting or knitting for them. Odelie is survived by her daughters, Charlene (Syl) Gaudet and their son, Curtis; Pat (Ian) McGregor and their children, Lindsay (Ben), Brea (Ben) and Jonathan; Noella (Alan) Hart and their children, Mitchell (Alma), Erica (Shawn) and great-grandchildren Madison and Ryder; June (Garry) Hoscheit and their children, Lee, Erin (Ryan) Sefton and greatgrandchildren, Sydney and William, Darcie and great-granddaughter, Taryn; brother, Lionel (Pauline) Benoit of Regina; and many nieces and nephews. Odelie was predeceased by her husband, Curtis (2007); mother and father, Evariste and Pauline Benoit; brothers, Edward, Roland, George, Wilfred, Eugene, Arsene, Gerald, Fernand and Leonard; and sisters, Alice and Eva. The family would like to thank the staff at Caleb Manor and Columbia Manor for their care and consideration. Special thanks to Dr. Patricia Smith for her compassion. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation, the Diabetes Association, or the Lung Association. The Funeral Liturgy will be held on Tuesday, July 28th at 11:00 a.m. at Holy Spirit Roman Catholic Church (114 Kingsmere Place), followed by Rite of Committal at Hillcrest Memorial Gardens. Arrangements in care of Kurtis Rae MOURNING GLORY FUNERAL SERVICES (978-5200). She is clothed with strength and dignity; She can laugh at the days to come. She speaks with Wisdom, And faithful instruction is on her tongue. She watches over the affairs of Her household and does not eat The bread of idleness. Her children arise and call her Blessed; Her husband also, and he praises her; Many women do noble things, But you surpass them all. PROVERBS 31:25-29
