Olav Hindahl Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Aug. 17, 2023.
Olav Hindahl was an honest, hardworking, ethical man who was always eager to help. He would be always thinking of others and their needs before himself. He had a wonderful smile and enjoyed his wife's great cooking. Having the ability to self-learn skills he mastered them to perfection such as his woodworking, photography, jewelry, computers to name a few.

Olav loved animals and originally wanted to be a vet.

Frequently he would help other animal owners when their animals were sick.

With his wife they owned their loving horse "Eric the Red" who lived to be 37.

BORN in Norway in 1937 and grew up during WWII. During his military service in the Air Force, he wanted to be a pilot but due to his tall frame wasn't able to fit into the small Norwegian planes. At age 26 he came to the Bay Area in California.

Like his brother, Olav wanted to be a policeman, but had to wait 5 years to become a citizen first. Meanwhile he worked in a tire factory.

Olav worked 30 years for the SF police Dept. working his way up through various departments. Became a very good and thorough detective and excelled in precisely formulating cases whether as undercover agent or in a pawn shop detail. Wrote several valuable computer programs for police use.

He was totally devoted to his work at the police Department or

whatever else he decided to undertake. Due to his excellent work he was very well respected by his peers and judges.

In 1980 he married Eva Gonerko his Polish wife of 43 years. They mostly lived in Belmont, and after his retirement, he wanted to live in a smaller town and partially moved to Oregon and spent the rest of his years between these two places.

He is survived by his loving wife, Eva, and his beloved younger brother, Oystein, in Norway.
