Dr. Onver E. Mahadeen

MAHADEEN Dr. Onver E. Mahadeen Pediatrician in Paterson, WWII vet Dr. Onver E. Mahadeen, M.D., of North Caldwell died in Sarasota, Fla., on Feb. 14, 2008. A memorial service will be held on March 29 at 9 a.m. at St. Josephs Hospital, Paterson. Dr. Mahadeen was born in New York, N.Y., on May 10, 1916. He received his undergraduate degree from Columbia Colllege in 1938 and his medical degree from the American University of Beirut, Lebanon, in 1943. He was then called to military service in the Army Medical Corps during World War II and served in the Middle East, parts of Africa, Central Europe and the Rhineland. He was discharged as a major in the Medical Corps in 1946, having received the World War II Victory Medal and the European-AfricanMiddle Eastern Campaign Medal. While stationed in France, he met his beloved wife, Hilde, and married in 1947. Since 1950, he had been a member of St. Josephs staff and practiced pediatrics in Paterson. He was a past president and active member of the West Essex Lions Club and an emeritus staff member of St. Josephs until his death. He is survived by a brother, James; son, Alec; daughters, Leila Elzey and Diane Musty; grandchild, Kerstin McNeal, and greatgrandchildren, Caleb and Katelynn. In lieu of flowers, donations should be pledged to St. Josephs Pediatric Medical Center.
